Has anyone got a scratching post in their field? Or know how to get one?

Billy loves a good scratch but I'd prefer it if he didn't use the light switch case in the yard lol.

We don't have a scratching post. BUT i used to work at a zoo and we used old brush heads attached to walls or fences for the animals to scratch on (very high up for the giraffes! :p ). My old loan horse used to have one too in his stable. Depending on the fencing you have in the field you could attach a broom head to the fence? Or just put a post in with a couple attached!

Not sure about actual ready-made ones though

I visited a place not so long ago that had one in the corner of every field and I thought that a good idea. I am meaning to put some in here as I see two ponies rubbing on my only small section of post and rail. (All the rest is mains electric, including a strand on the gates). Surely, any piece of tree trunk set into the ground will do? I have some larch trunks about 12 inches in diameter that I intend to use -- whenever I get around to it!

Good idea about the brush heads, would be cheap to get as well. Could attach a couple of plastic heads to walls outside stable yard!

There's no trees in his field, it's fenced post & sheep wire whole way round. Too many escapee cows lol. Plenty of shelter, just no scratching potentials. He does have a good scratch at some of the posts though!

I do but my itchy pony rarely uses it preferring fences instead. There is a massive post with a rubber itching pad on it inspired by the scratchers at the donkey sanctuary.

They are much cheaper! Especially if you have old broken brushes that you never got round to fixing......
