Thanks. Which ones have you got? How much were they?
I used the SCS3 stirrup treads with the MH Stirling boots that go with them. I fell off the first time I used the treads, and my foot became wedged in the stirrup because the boot had locked into the tread. I was actually left lying on the ground with my foot still in the stirrup despite me shaking my foot to get it out, and my foot only became free when my instructor came and unlocked it from said stirrup! I was so lucky that the horse didn't move, as I would have been dragged if he did.
I haven't used them since, and now use the same boots with Sprenger stirrups. The extra grip from the boots does help with keeping my foot still in the saddle, but IMO those stirrup treads when used with the boots are dangerous.

Hmm thats interesting, ive asked for a pair of the MH SCS3 stirups for Xmas.Do they not come in those quick release/safety stirrups that are supposed to snap if you fall off?
I have been using the SCS boots and stirrup treads for ages now and absolutely love them. Have had no problems releasing my feet - fallen off a few times when using them. Would highly recommend them!
Thanks to everyone who recommended cheese-grater stirrups. I got a pair of Shires ones 1/2 price off eBay and they have been brilliant for jumping, dressage (both instructors said that my lower-leg position has improved) and "arena XC". Ordered a 2nd pair of the same for my other saddle
