I'm just watching the dangerous dog programme that was aired last night. The owners of these dogs are the absolute scum of the earth. The conditions these 'pit bull' type dogs are kept in are horrendous. I know it's unrealistic but these people should face a jail term and be banned from keeping any animal for the rest of their lives. Makes me so angry. these poor dogs.

I wouldn't go so far as to call them all scum of the earth but yes definitely some of those living conditions left alot to desire and a fair few of the owners needed a good kick up the backside to get their lives into stock and take proper responsibility for their animals. I wondered if the programme would be really biased towards the pitbull and staff types being aggressive but was pleased to see that they did explain alot of the time the behaviour is down to the owners.

The woman with the young dog that was PTS at the end was already banned from keeping animals because of a previous cruelty conviction, she kept them anyway and it's the dog that pays the price.
The police officer that was in the programme did point that out as a failing in the law that because of the type of dog it couldn't be rehomed because of the law, couldn't go back to her for obvious reasons which only left one option for a lovely sociable dog.
He did also say at one point the DDA was brought in to improve public safety and improve dog welfare, he then said you've got to wonder if it does either.

The new law on dog control going though at the moment does not name any breed,so maybe this appalling canine genocide will stop.It makes it much more owner responsibility ,and as far as I understand it the blame is pointed at the owner, and dogs will not be seized a la Gestapo,as now, unless they offend in behaviour.
No one is happy with the DDA,it needs to go.
