Can anyone recommend any products/feed/supplements to help with dandruff? My new boy is black and has very sensitive skin which tends to flake, particularly around his mane and tail roots, but also his coat generally. Am wondering if linseed oil might help?

Had the same problem with my ned. I have changed his feed to show mix and I have been giving him Linseed oil as well. He has now improved greatly. I also gave him a good bath in head and shoulders which cleared the scurfy mane. If he is sensitive I would suggest a patch test just to make sure the shampoo won't cause a problem. Just make sure you thoroughly rinse it out because if you don't you will have even bigger flakes !!

thanks for the advice, will get some linseed oil then. Btw what make is the show mix, and is it much higher in calories than your average mix? Only he is a pretty good doer so at the moment is only on high fibre nuts!! Head and Shoulders a good plan - cheaper than horse shampoo too

Any oil will help - I buy the big 10 litre bottles in Tesco it works out much cheaper than linseed oil or horsey specific supplemwents. And try bathing in head and shoulders - again nice and cheap and works wonders!
