Sooo, pony has injured his SDFT. Nice large hole, high up near the knee. Anyone had any similar injuries? Got advice? Any happy, feel good stories?

Following vets instructions for treatment and pony has lots of friends, lots of food and is kept as entertained as possible.

Pics for anyone interested :)

The tb I mentioned in the thread above/ below (coffin joint) did his SDFT while in training, he had some treatment in the racing yard and came to me to finish box rest, walk out and get turned away, he went out in the field 24/7 for 6 months after spending almost the same on box rest with daily walking.
Before he started his ridden rehab he was scanned and the lesion, which I think was 40%, showed to be fully healed so we started gradually bringing him back to work while he stayed out 24/7, he did 8 weeks walking 6 days a week before starting trot work, all was done hacking. After 4 months he was cantering and returned to race training, he came back here to p2p running 6 times but was not really enjoying the racing so retired, the leg stood up to it well but he had other issues which made the racing tough for him.

He did his 4 months here barefoot which I am convinced helped support the tendon, his feet when he first arrived were dreadful and by the time he went back to training looked as if they belonged to a different horse, after he retired he had the shoes back off and had a few months turned away, he is now 2 years out of racing, was still barefoot until 2 weeks ago when he was shod so he can wear studs as he has now progressed in his new career as an allrounder doing low level eventing. SJ, Dressage and local shows, now aged 12 he looks fab, is enjoying life in the slower lane living out with his friends and the leg is cool and hard with no swelling even after going xc.

Lots of ice and arnica :)

I froze ice cube bags and bandaged these round the back of the leg twice to three times daily and slathered the leg in arnica gel. Worked in getting the swelling down and the leg was almost normal looking when she was given the OK to go back to work.
