Am moving to new yard this weekend and as the floor doesn't drain all that well, have decided to seal them and use more absorbent bedding for the little time the horses will be in.

For those who have done it, what did you use and was it succeessfull stopping the wee from getting under the mats?

My hubby and I sealed some in that i have on loan from a friend and its worked fantastically. the mats were from a company called Quattro (think that's how its spelt) they do stable mats, veterinary flooring etc etc and they sell the stuff to seal the mats in, was about a fiver a tube and we used about 6 tubs but a year on they're still sealed in......

Me! After I became quite unpopular cos my stable did drain - but into next doors stable!!

After several unsuccessfull attempts with various sealents and adhesives, B&Q roof and gutter sealent seems to be working -its a couple of quid per tube and you could probably do a whole stable including the wall edges with two tubes (but I just did the area where he pees with about half a tube!)

Whichever sealent you go for, it seems to work best if the mats are quite snugly fitting, but not really squished together or all the sealents squeezes out of the gap and doesnt make a proper seal...

Good luck!

We used tylene and they did it all for us. When we had the new stables built the tylene mats had been down in the old stables for about 4-5 years and the builders had real trouble getting them up! Now have all stables in new barn sealed as is the yard and wash down bay. I would recommends it as I didn't like the idea of lifting heavy stinky mats but make sure you have non porous ones!
