Is anyone going to any of the qualifiers or have been before? I was thinking of taking my boy to some but I think he may be out of his league? I dont know as I havent seen the standard of the horses in these classes, I dont have any ridden pics for anyone to say he is good enough but I would like to have a go, But dont want to be laughed out of the ring,

I know what classes I would do if I did go, Riding club show horse and the hunters. But im worried if we are good enough. x

put a side on pic of him up (not ridden) and it will give a clearer view of what he is.

The standard is very high at SFAS, but if your schooling is right and your turnout spot on then you should be ok

Here is a pic from when I got him a month ago, He has built up weight on his backend, I know he needs a bit more on him so you dont need to point that out. But I dont want him ripped to shreds as he is a star in his own right, I would like people to be honest but dont go mad lol

The standard at the final is pretty high, but the qualifiers can be quite a mix of types! If your horse is able to cope with a busy show atmosphere and lots of horses cantering around the ring a the same time, trotting poles and a small fence, and working in a reasonable outline, then definitely have a go at the riding club horse class. I can't really see much of him in the pic as the sunlight prevents your horse from being seen! How big is he? He really needs to be a good 15.2 (i.e. measure 15.2 but look more like 16hh to most people) to do the hunters. This is much more of a show class and he would be expected to be a reasonable county/approaching county standard to qualify for the final. I can say almost 100% they will never put a horse through to the final that has curbs or any other major conformational defect. Things like scars, splints etc are fine (although better if you don't have them, of course!)

Hope this helps.

Thanks he is fine cantering and all the other things you said in a group. he goes in an outline when you get him moving he goes very nice i was so surprised for a big horse that he rides straight but he only does when he working properly lol.

He is 17.2 he would be ok i guess in riding club show horse. He does need a bit of condition on him but hes not too bad, Sorry about the pic its the only one of him i have naked lol.

He doesnt have any blemishs or anything. I have only just got him really so havent shown him, Im not expecting no world beater or anything I just would like to have a go. x Thanks for your help

In that case I would enter for both the Riding Club and Hunter classes. If you qualify for both, you are only allowed to do one at HOYS, but cross that bridge when you come to it! In the riding club class you will do a set show, and in the hunter class, the judge will ride your horse.

Ooh ok thanks for that. I will have to have a go at it, Before I do will get some pics or a vid or us schooling so you can see what hes like and tell me what you think. x

Ooh i was looking into doing one the qualifiers but they all seem quite far away and i didnt wanna travel that far if i didnt stand a chance lol - FMM what do you think of Star:

OOh exciting - but expensive lol....it seems that its more appropraiet to ride in a double or pelham, this right? How would you suggest getting Star riding correctly in a pelham/double??

Also this pic is from a local RC show we did last year - are we on the right track - what should i change??

Tail should be shorter and pulled, saddle further back, you could do with a much better fitting shirt! (and preferably pale yellow/cream rather than white). I would speak to an instructor if you want to ride in a double/pelham etc - they will be able to advise much better than anyone on here who has not seen the horse going in the flesh. Oh - and look up! In showing you should ride into the ring as though you own it. It is all about illusion as much as having the best horse.
