The search of the waste ground has been finished and nothing has been found. However the police only searched for 2hours - looking at the size of the area they had to search i just dont see how they can possibly have carried out a full and proper search

And more to the point, where does all this go from here?
 
I honestly don't know, but one thing I am certain of, Madeleine will never be found I fear.

The police have been incredibly lax over the whole thing and any hope that she could have been found appear to be slipping away. Very amateurish if you ask me and perhaps the Portuguese police need a bit of a wake-up call incase anything like this ever happens again.

That search was all due to a hoax, was it not? Perhaps they found out mid-way thru and hence were so half-hearted about it?

I would love for her to be returned to her parents. I think Gerry and Kate have been very dignified in the way they have behaved and have tried to put their grief into positively keeping Madeleine's image alive.

However, I do think that to find one person in the globe is like looking for a needle in a haystack. She could be absolutely anywhere by now.... Very sad indeed.
 
I too dont think she will be found - unfortunately i am of the believe she is already dead. All the media attention has a catch 22 situation effect - everyone is so aware of her going missing there is just no way she could be transferred, or given back. The easiest option for the kidnappers would have been to kill her.
Whether they find a body i dont know, i sincerely hope they do for the sake of the parents. However the way the police have dealt with this, i doubt anything will happen. The whole search IMO has been a shambles. They needed to search for her the minute she was alerted as missing, not the morning after.
 
there was a toddler - much younger - taken from a greek island in the 90s and that child has never been found

the greek police were as 'efficient' in that case as the portugese police have been in this one

the consoling thought is a madeline renamed and 'illegally adopted' by a rich couple in s.america or middle/far east e.g.

the bad thought is an unmarked and unfound grave in some rock strewn gully somewhere

I'm surprised tbh that the P. police haven't apparently made more use of the dogs that are used in earthquakes, etc to search the area - most of the pictures I saw of the search were humans only - no dogs
 
What really gets me is how many more children have went missing since this happened and yet you hear nothing in the news. Would we all be so forgiving and watchful if it were chav parents? I know it sounds terrible, but I think every single missing child deserves to be treated the same.

Well I believe that it is all down to the parents on this score. You have parents who are intelligent, have oodles of savvy, know how to work the media and how to get what they want.....and then you have parents who certainly don't! Right or wrong, well that's down to the parents about how much or little exposure you give your case. Doubtless money plays a significant part in it too.

I know for sure that if one of my children had been abducted I'd know all the hoops to swing through to get maximum publicity...no different from Madeleine's parents. Most of us on here would know what channels to go down and probably know people who could help them anyway - I doubt many "chavs" do...once again their ignorance would let them down I fear.

You shout loud enough to the right sort of people....and you definitely DO get results.
 
I have to say; it really wouldn't surprise me if she was still alive.....I just think she will never be found so in my opinion, it is fruitless to wonder whether she be alive or dead unfortunately.
 
Tia, I agree with you. The reason the McCanns have had so much exposure is because they are bright enough to work out how to use the media. And persistent in their cause.

Personally, I say good on them. If it were my child I would want to do exactly the same. It is a great pity that other cases do not get the same media attention. But the McCanns are the ones keeping that going..........The media wouldn't just keep coming to them.........
 
personaly i hope she is found alive or has been illegaly adopted, however id rather her be found dead then in the hands of a pedophile ring! At least if she were dead her family would get closure and she would no longer be suffering!
 
Millie Dowler was found....six months or so after she went missing, the body was discovered in woodland.
Sadly i fear Madeleine is either dead and very near to went she went missing or she is thousands of miles away in the hands of paedophile ring, it is very unlikely that she has been taken by someone that wants a child or been illegally adopted but I think its the slim chance of these possibilities that have kept the parents going.

Shame they weren't 'bright' enough not to leave their babies in the room alone, while they went out to dinner...

Quite. I saw this morning that they have criticised the police for claiming that any forensic evidence in the room may have been destroyed because so many people went into the room after Madeleine was snatched. Apparently it is "unhelpful" for the police to say this but perfectly acceptable for them to criticise the police and the way they are running the investigation...
 
I think the parents have probably given themselves a hard enough time over this and don't need our help! Hindsight is a fabulous thing. Given the situation, I am not sure it is our place to pass judgement on this one. For whatever reason, possibly because I have a beautiful 2 year old daughter, this has really hit my emotions, I just hope and pray that whatever has happened to Madeline, she hasn't had to suffer for too long and I still desperately hope she will be found and returned to her parents, although I agree this is now unlikely..

For two very intelligent people, Kate and Gerry McCann were incredibly stupid!

That doesn't mean that I don't feel sorry for them.
However, I feel sorrier for Madeleine...
 
im sorry but i agree with dubble you just dont leave children on there own in any country even if it is next door these people watch how often they are left and how often they are checked they are very clever people they must of watched them for days before taking them but they have to live with that for the rest of there lives and my heart goes out for poor little maddie and her family.

I am quite sure they will be repenting for that act for quite some time, if not the rest of their lives. They can't change history, but they can try to influence some kind of a future for themselves (and primarily, god willing, Madeleine).

So sad this has happened at all, even sadder it looks as if there wont be a happy ending.
 
Absolutely Anima.

We all go through life making mistakes, but rarely do those mistakes bring about such devastating consequences.
Nothing would make me happier than to see Madeleine reunited with her family, safe and well, but in reality, I just don't believe that's going to happen.
That poor little soul...

God its all so awfull, i have a three year old and it really hits home, i have cried so many tears over this, i just feel the mc canns were incredibly nieave over this and obviously thought there children were safe... but can simply never understand how they could leave the door unlocked, i dont want to appear judgemental as i really feel for them. I am still praying for a miracle. Just hope the angels are looking after her.
