Searched the forum for threads on Haflingers, well...

I love them.
But I think the problem with them is the fact they became very fashionable for a while, people seemed to have moved on now, and a lot of people bought them on the fact that they were the "in" horse and also on their looks. Not taking into account their character. They can be stubborn, so I have been told. I, unfortunately, have never owned one. They are a beautiful breed.

They can be stubborn, rude and very bargy but they are also very easy to train out of it and so very loveable once they see you as 'their' person. We love our mare and I would have a field full of them if I could!

I echo everything HCH4971 says!!!

How do you sort your Haftys manes out. Mine has a mane on both sides is very long and thick, his forelock is really long too!! How should they look.

quirky - I love that, I think they are! Haha.

Fany Du Champ - It's funny because I'd never really heard of them or seen one until somebody replied to my wanted ad with one :) Have since learnt a lot about them from a friend at the yard who'd had one before, and other people's experience's, it seems everyones is different! :) They are beautiful, but that's certainly not why I got mine, just a added bonus! :D haha.

hch4971 - I think so too, got to love them :)

It's my understanding you shouldn't touch they're manes at all, it's meant to be all au naturale :) I just use a lot of dry horse shampoo in winter and A LOT of de-tangler!

well, what can I say about Haflingers ?????????
How about a picture of my princess?? I think that will say it all.

Am I the only one that thinks she is cute?

I love my girl Sally to pieces. She totally helped me regain my confidence after it was shattered by two TB's. She is a little wilful and does have a tendancy to try and stick her nose in the air and sod off if she gets a little uncertain of something(hence the martingale) but she is an absolute diamond and just what I needed!:D

Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous!!!!

My 7yr old daughter stood in the field with mine today rubbing his nose and singing to him and he was like a lap dog followed her everywhere. It was so cute to watch!! He was definitely feeling the love today.

Yes, tanking off seems to be what Haflingers do best. I have tried all sorts of bits but nothing will stop my little angel when she gets a bee in her bonnet. I am very lucky as I hack out in an area that is very hilly, when she starts I point her up and let her go, she soon slows down when she feels me push her on.
Her second best trait is the "stop and spin" thing. I'm not bragging but I rarely fall off any more but she gets me every time with this little trick. It always happens when I'm ridding with hubby and obviously he just laughs his head off. Madame just stops and stares at me with that "what are you doing there?" look.
I bought her from Hafling which is the prettiest place I have ever seen, it really is worth a holiday there for us lovers of Haflingers. They turn away about 200 youngsters for the summer and they just roam around the mountains in huge groups. When I got Eva she was only barely backed and she was a hysterical cow but with lots of time and sweets she has turned into a dream. She will stand perfectly still when I clip her now which believe me is a miracle. The first time she tried to kill me and not succeeding then went for the suicide approach nearly hanging herself.
I love my baby and she gives me loads of satisfaction.

The only halfinger I ever spent any time with was a RS pony called tommy. I loved him! The kids however called Tommy the halfinger "Tommy childflinger!". Made me laugh cos it was sooo true! Barbie pony yes but def not a kids pony. He was fast, strong and stubborn. Cracking pop on him too when he could be persuaded!

Clava, what a wonderful job you have done! well done.:D:D:D:D
She is lovely and so is her baby. Congratulations, they are 2 lucky horseys.:D:D:D

Excellent job, you have made a fantastic difference to her, she really does look superb.

Thank you, I only intended to buy the foal, but couldn't leave the mare and I've since been told, you can't have just one haflinger! lol.:)
