Getting ahead of myself, following on from my post about the lovely big plod, but can anyone recommend a good Specifically Equine vet in the Thurrock area of Essex and does anyone know of cheap, but good horse transport from this area?

I use Blaircourt vets and they are based in South Woodham Ferrars so not that far from Thurrock and I have been really pleased with them.

Have you tried contacting Phoenix horse transport or Equines in Motion, both in Essex but I haven't used either so not sure what they're like.

I use Paton & Lee based at Rivenhall just off the A12 are you looking for self drive hire? if so there are manningtree horsebox hire. or DKS at Great Totham

Sue at Phoenix is very nice - she has a lorry and a trailer.

Vets: Paton & Lee are very good in my (vast) experience of vets in Essex. Not used for vetting but have used for ongoing treatment and specific issues.

House & Jackson are the usual vets in Essex - have used them for emergencies before but not for vetting.

Cant really think of anyone else that I would use for a vetting. H&J are a bit closer to Thurrock so might be cheaper call out but I dont know what their latest prices are - best to ring a few and get quotes for 2 and 5 stages and ask them what they include etc.

I use Paton & Lee too, excellent vets. However have a feeling Thurrock might be a bit far for them?
H&J are... now how can I put it... quite money orientated

Nicely put Ilfield ... !!

Think P&L will go to Thurrock they do travel quite a way - I normally go to them though.

I use Platt and Murrell, but not sure if they cover your area?

Well worth a phone call to find out though. They're fantastic!

I have found that P&M will cover any area as long as you are paying!

House and Jackson - don't rate them now. They used to be very good but would avoid unless I was desperate.

Platt & Murrell - my current vets, they are not cheap - but they are very good and for me this is the important factor in my choice of vets. I am probably going to use a more local vet for routine jabs this year, but anything else and I will cough up for them. If I wanted a good vetting, then I would certainly give them a call.

As said above, they do travel distances - they come from Chelmsford to Epping which is about 45 mins drive if traffic is good but I do pay £60 (inc VAT) for the visit.
