Wonder if anyone can help me...

I am currently searching for a new horse to 16hh + buy/ loan. I have been riding 20 years and I would like something for hacking, schooling and dressage. However I have recently lost my confidence out hacking so I need something that is going to be v safe and help give me my confidence back (along with my lovely instructor that is). However I am not a "novice/ beginner" rider and the confidence giving horses I have seen so far seem to be total plods- lovely, but not what I am looking for. I would like to compete some dressage again. I am longing to find my new horse but my search so far isnt going very well. Any advice on what I should be looking out for? I am now thinking maybe dressage schoolmaster?

I used to ride an ex-racehorse who then was retrained for eventing. After a fall XC he specialised in dressage. He was a fantastic dressage schoolmaster (for the level I was at) and due to his early years going out with a string of racehorses he was solid on hacks too.

So they do exist. :)

Good luck with your search.

I feel your pain! I'm looking at the moment too for a sane and sensible horse 16hh plus to do a bit of everything one,

So far I have tried 11 horse and the only one I fell in love with failed the vetting,

I can be nervous too but again like you confidence givers I have found to be plods and lots that are said are sane aren't!

It's a long process but have stopped looking for a while as travelled over 1500 miles in total and have spent far too much in fuel as I have to travel atleast 1hr 30 to find anything!

I would suggest going for something a bit older that has been there and done it. My lwvtb horse is rising 14 and after a massive loss of confidence he is proving to be exactly what I need. You have to ride him if you get what I mean otherwise he will jump at imaginary things (that's all he does) or pretend he doesn't know how to go into an outline in the school but he is so far proving to be solid as a rock and very capable of a good blast but with good brakes. My YM got her now 24 y o gelding at the same age and he is very similar to Max.

Good luck the right one is out there x
