Bald patches have started to appear on the little pony. He doesn't seem to be itchy and the skin looks healthy. On patch did have a scab but I think this is coincidence rather than symptomatic. The patches are mainly on his flanks and his neck behind the jaw. Does this sound like seasonal alopecia to you?

No direct experience with seasonal alopecia - but with any hair loss I'd ask the vet to rule out other causes first. Is this first season the horse has done this? Can you ask the previous owners?

Thanks Applecart, there's definitely a symmetry to the hair loss which was one of the reasons I thought it might be SA. Shay, it is the first time it's happened. Same home since 4 and he's now 9, he seems well apart from the hair loss but if anymore falls out its definitely a vet job. He's actually in the process of being sold and the new owners are collecting him in about 3 weeks once they have their paddock sorted. Maybe he doesn't want to leave!
