My mare was being chased in the field to the point where she was scared. My vet suggested Regumate to see if her being in season was causing it - it wasn't - so we stopped the Regumate. Now she has come into season and is the worst I have known her to be! She is currently stabled as still gets chased in the field - she is kicking out and squealing most of the time - even when there are no other horses in sight! Could being on Regumate have affected her season?

Thankfully she is fine to handle and ride!

My mare had the most ENORMOUS season after being on regumate. It was awful. She had been on regumate to try and regulate very painful ovaries - it didn't work but when I took her off it she had the biggest and worst season ever. Fortunately it was just the first one and she was fine after that!!

I avoided using Regumate becuase of this, i took her straight into Leahurst for a scan to find out the root of the problem. Turned out she had an imflamed lining of the womb, making seasons very painful hence all the horrible behaviour. She had a catheta for 3 days into which antibiotics were inserted twice a day. Now you wouldn't even know when shes in season as she seems like a little lamb compared to the nightmare she was before.

Not saying this is what your mare had but could be worth going for an internal scan if you haven't already done so or even suggest it to your vet
