Seasons

As MM suggests, there is no cut off point, some will cease and some will jsut become irregular, either way to me it's not a good thing, it's basically brewing up to pyo time.

Yes, should have said the reason I was a bit vague in my post is because quite a few of my bitches have been spayed around middle age, either because there were a few indications of pyo or just as a preventative measure. Of the ones kept entire most have just reduced to maybe one season every 9 months or so, although I did have one old tart who came in every 6 months and would still stand for a dog at 11 years old.

I've had 15-year-olds who came into season every nine months, just as they'd done throughout their lives!! The more seasons a dog has without having puppies the greater the lining of the uterus builds up. Thicker linings means a great risk of pyometra so I now spey my bitches when they have finished their breeding careers at around seven years.
