Hi
Just got back into riding, finally found a share horse with a nice understanding owner who is happy to let me ride her horse for free once a week (other people including her ride him during the week). He's a 17hh cob and very well schooled, looks after me on the roads. I rode him for an hour first time on Saturday and today I've had a bit of back pain despite soaking in the bath last night. Just wondering how I will get over these aches and pains? The back pain can come and go for any reason, but I know its because I was riding yesterday.
I did get a Helen Moffett seat saver for another occasion, I'm thinking of using it on his saddle. Any experiences with this particular seat saver?

I've had a few heather moffet seat savers in the past (got a few cheap second hand!) but now I bought an acavallo gel out seat saver and it's so much nicer and comfier to sit on IMO. You don't get the same bulk under you that I found with the HM, and it's grippy so if the horse throws you about a bit - you stay with them rather than getting dragged along a little later!
Good luck with your share :)

I also have an Acavello Gel Out. If you're only hacking, then the Acavello is very comfortable, but they're a nightmare for jumping as I find I can't shift my weight because I'm stuck firmly to the gel.

I'll consider different types if I don't find the Helen Moffett seat saver to my liking. Hopefully it'll just cushion my back but regular riding once a week will eventually get me back into shape. I'm hoping to find a job closer to my share horse too so I can ride him more often.

I have a heather Moffat one, brought it when we were going through an awkward saddle fit phase and the only saddle that fitted his lordship was ultra hard and uncomfortable for me - it worked a treat!

I've currently taken to using it again on my new saddle that is very comfy but also uber slippery ... Not a good combination with a severe spooker and it's doing a great job of keeping me in the saddle after a couple of spook related falls pre-application of the heather Moffat ;)

I had a weird experience with a fluffy seat saver, not sure which brand. Borrowed it as thought it would stop my boney behind getting achey. But when spooky horse was doing his swerves at the scary weeds, I almost came off. Think it stopped my seat second guessing where the idiot was about to swerve and then send a signal up to my brain as to how to stay on. Less is more sometimes.

I'm not totally convinced that back pain would stop because your bum is a bit comfier! It could be tension, or you not sitting quite straight? Is it possible to have a lesson or two first?

Ditto this......... maybe you need a chiropractic or osteo session to see what's going on? You could have some back issues which you're unaware of.

I'm not sitting straight in the saddle, but I'm considering having a simulator lesson or asking a freelance instructor to come and give me a 1-1 session.
