It's supposed to boost the immunity and I know it contains a lot of trace elements and minerals however it is also suggested that it contains growth hormones and be careful as it has high levels of iodine in it.

I really like seaweed as a sprinkle on - however I don't use it here as I have a lot of youngstock and this isn't something I would choose to feed the youngsters.

Everyone has different ideas though so your best bet would be to thoroughly research it and make up your own mind.

I chose to feed my youngsters Black Oil Sunflower Seeds instead - check them out, they really are worth considering for feeding babies.

My two have this as part of the Total Eclipse supplement from Simple Systems - my youngster is feed this, as is my oldie.

If you are looking for a good youngstock supplement I can recommend equimins one.

Tia has answered as ever very thoroughly the question, and I too feed black sunflower seeds, and have done so for about a year following Tia's post and can confirm they give a great coat and feet. Mine really shine due to instant linseed and black sunflower seeds (I am a lazy bugger and really don't have time to spend hours grooming)

Feeding for colour - there are various feeds depending on what colour you want to bring out. Paprika for chesnuts, seaweed for grays and black sunflower seeds for dark colours.

I'm glad you've had no problems with your animals, but I do think it is important to point out to people that some horses CAN have problems with it and how to avoid such problems occuring.

I totally agree.
I wasn't meaning in any such way that because mine have been fine then it's fine for everyone else.
It's like everything though, what works for one wont necerssarly work for another.
But it is worth bearing in mind that it may work.
But like you say you do have to look into it/everything carefully.

Seaweed is an exellent suppliment but be careful when feeding it to young stock as it is high in many nutrients and can promote excessive growth especially bone and this is not always a god thing in youngsters.
A good well balanced suppliment thet has seaweed as well as cooked linseed garlic and fenugreek is Winter glow summershine but i,ve just forgotten who makes it so i'll try and let you know tomorrow!! sorry!!
