Do they make useful jumping horses ? Friend wants one but loves her jumping so not sure if suitable.

we had some that can jump huge!! some have really powerfully behinds just not the fastest of things!! welsh d crosses make gd jumpers!!

Think if you didn't getone that was too heavy. My mum's old one was cr*p at jumping he never enjoyed it, he could do it but it was hard work (for the rider!). He was much more suited to dressage really and he loved that. I guess looking back he should have been physically able to jump - maybe he just didn't like it!

Oh yes they can jump!!!
Mine BSJA'd not with me on top I hasten to add. He was bought for his showing potential but OMG what a pop and he loved it too!
After we had pulled and trimmed and generally turned him into a JA pony!!!

My sec D loves jumping so much, he gets so excited when he sees jumps being put up!! He has a lovely scoopy jump and never knocks (touch wood) always get a clear round from him, and he's a little wizzer in the timed rounds!!

Thats not the best one, a late take-off, but don't have any better ones on here!!

My friend has a 'D' and he is fabulous jumper

My lad s a welsh sport horse if i am being snobby! or welsh x tb!
He can jump the moon some days and others he will not jump 85cm..not sure if its the welsh in him, the TB or the facthe is a quirky sh*- but my next one will be a welsh X

My sec D loves jumping. she lives for it. could quite easily clear 4 foot plus, if i had the guts. Shes a little xc machine and they can be pretty fast too. We odeand i never struggle to get the time, in fact sometimes shes too quick, get the first 2 fences out of the way and i just seem to press cruise control. its fab.

I'm on my 3rd Welsh D. First one I did loads of Unaff SJ and a bit of BSJA. (Seniors) He was quite difficult but that was due to his life before. He was 15.1hh, stocky.

Current girlie (she's very finely built) 14.3hh, jumped upto Newcomers, won just over £200 in about 14 months, now doing PN Eventing. Struggled at BSJA 1.10m due to distances being too long for her essentially pony stride.

Also fab hunter - jumps anything.

New girl is a 3yr old, popped a few jumps on the lunge, no bother.

Friend has an ex JA Welsh Sec D who jumped internationally, won over £2k in BSJA monies and is a real chunky sort, so I don't think it matters what build they are, they're natural jumpers.

my sec d jumps 120 130 easily so yes they can
i always like to have something either welsh or part welsh they are an all rounder
and make excellent jumpers, eventers, dressage even driving horses what ever you want

the welsh d is aworker loves to work more work you do better the horse is

Most D's have a good jump on them, my old D Fly could jump 3"3 on a good day

And was great on a mock hunt, would jump everything

my old Sec D is a fab jumper when he puts his mind to it, but he's a spooky bugger and broke my wrist running out - used to ditch me all the time with dirty run-outs. regularly jumped him over 3ft at home though. new one is even more spooky and wont even go over a pole on the floor in the school - he jumps nicely out hacking though, so will hopefully make a good XC pony (well, horse - he is 15.2hh), although dressage will be his main career as it was with my old boy.

here is my old lad:

Ditto this (except the broken wrist!). Mine jumps like a stag but like all Welsh D's she is inclined to be opinionated and thus jumping a course is like a series of negotiations.

She's cleared 4ft at home, though. They have big arses and thus a lot of power behind, you'll probably find that most give their fences too much room if anything. Like all natives they have that fabled 'fifth leg', meaning that they can get themselves out of trouble very well, so they are brilliant at XC.

I've got a Sec D (he's quite a light sort tho, not the heavy ones)
He regularly does 2ft 9 SJ and we pop 3ft3 at home (once in a blue moon as I hate jumping big- when you see the pics you'll see why- he adds 2ft to everything whatever height it is
