second hand bates caprilli or new shires optimus york

I am torn between the two both are the same price. I know the bates is a better made saddle but the optimus appeals to me as well.

Does any one have any words of wisdom or opinions please

Ive had both ,using shires at moment as I have young horse and its really comfortable. I need high wither really so will be selling it soon .

Thanks cellie, its also for my youngster a 4 year old ish with a med/wide wither.

Did you find one better than the other, whats the quality of the shires like, any good?

I would say quality of bates is bit higher but thats reflected in price.I like barnsby saddles but cant risk paying out until he has finished growing but have also read some good things about kent and masters these have changeable gullett and are built to last like barnsby. There are some good buys on ebay for k and m unfortunately for me they are too long an suited to cob not tb so Im waiting for high wither option .

I know how you feel! I also like the kent n masters ones but just cant stretch that far

My head is saying bates, but it would be nice to have a new saddle for her as ive always had second hand.

How long have you had the optimus one for, is it wearing well? Also is it the leather one.
