My 16hh 6yo ISH is devastatinglygoing to be out of action for minimum of a year with a ligament injury aftertrying to jump out of his field :-(

I'm therefore looking for a second horse (which I maysell on if I can get my boy back to competing in the future, he was previouslyjumping BSJA up to 110 track).

I have seen 2 horses so far:

Option 1: 15.2 on passport (but looked like 15.1)6yo eventer sucessfully competed at BE90 and BE100. An absolute joy to ride and jump but Ithink I might be too big - I'm 10 stone and 5ft5.

Option 2: 16.1 French TB, Ex-race horse, 6yo.Lovely straight ride but greener to jump. More potential for improvement butdidn't feel the initial bond I had with the smaller horse.

My real question would yougo for the sensible 16.1, or the smaller guy – I know which I prefer, but I don’twant to feel underhorsed when out competing and regret my decision.

All help/advice welcome! I've never had a second horse before so it's all new to me!

Does it have to be one of these two? Can you not keep looking if neither is quite right? If not, then I think you have already answered the question - your heart sounds set on the smaller horse and on paper I wouldn't have thought you would be vastly too big for her. Best of luck

Agree, there are so many horses about, either keep looking for something that ticks all the boxes or go for the smaller one

Agree with the others - from your post you are clearly more drawn towards the smaller horse than the larger one, so if you're only going to choose one of those two then go for the 15.2 - your height/weight shouldn't be a problem. But there are so many lovely horses around at the moment, and coming into winter the amount for sale is only going to increase - so if you're not 100% on either, then continue searching as something ideal is sure to come along x

Why are you too big for the smaller one? Mine was 14.3hh (if you're being generous!!) when I bought him, I'm 5ft4 and somewhere between 9 and 9.5st. He is now just over 15hh and he's the perfect size. Sounds like the smaller one does the job and you like it. Depends really... mine didn't tick all of the boxes by any stretch of the imagination, when I went to see him, but I knew I could work with him. 18 months later, he ticks all of the boxes now :)

Definitely don't sound too big, I'm 5'5" and a wee bit over 10st and have a dainty 15.2hh....if he felt great to ride then go for it :) if you are having to ask though, then perhaps they both aren't quite right!?

Ah.....you can't say you are to big
I have a 15.3 tb when puffed up...I am 5'8 and weigh more than you!!!!!!!!
He is fine, works well and doesn't struggle at all

Thought I'd share an update - I went to try the 15.2 again and still loved him so looks like he is the one :-)

He is so different from my first horse but I think that is why it feels so right - I don't feel like I'm trying to replace mine while he is out of action.

Thanks for all the advice - going with my heart was definitely the right thing to do in my situation!
