Second opinon on worming.

Westgate must have updated their advice about tapeworms. I have their yearly planner from 2016 still pinned to my feed room wall, which recommends worming for tape in spring and autumn.

I have not yet used their equisal test, but always do multiple annual WECs. Once the results were 0, 0, 3250 :eek3:.

ycbm there isn't any point testing pre moxidectin unless you are trying to get a longitudinal picture of the situation.

So after all the talk about wormers what do you think is the best route for me to go down? I'm not in a rush to move from the current yard and there are a few other livery yards in the area that I can look into to move to instead.

Also how long does the Equest Pramox stay in the system of the horse?

All that wormer talk was really interesting! I think we need a definitive guide to worming thread! You all seem to have a lot of really useful info that might help to reduce bad practice and minimise resistance.

And that's why I would insist on a horse being wormed on arrival, because of 'clever' folk who would brandish an empty worming syringe and insist that that their horse had just been wormed.

Also, why was Pramox used at this time of year, instead of Equest?

Pramox is the only wormer to do red and tape worm. I would do equest over winter and eqvalan duo April, I would not use pramox as I know a few who've coliced from it, mine is 38 and I don't want to risk it

The normal equest is 13 weeks not sure of the pramox and wouldn't use it anyway

there already is one on the Westgate lab site. All the info needed is there, what to do, when to do it and why.

I'm pretty sure most yards would want you to worm. We'll be scheduling normal Equest in a few weeks at our yard.

Westgate told me not to bother re-worming a horse that had been wormed with Equest Pramox within 3 weeks.
