This year I thought it would be nice if my yard did a Secret Santa! There are only 7 owners on the yard and 6 or us are girls and get on very well! The guy is Slovakian and to be honest we hardly ever see him, and when we do when can never understand him, although he is always very nice to us. We're not sure wether to ask him to join in, would he understand? Were only spending around £5 as some of us don't have much spare money.

Does anyone else do a Secret Santa type thing on there yard? Also did you include the YO? She normally gets us each a box of chocolates and discuits and trats for the horses. Last year we all clubbed together and brought them a voucher for a local restaurant that they like but this year her husband is quite poorly so we don't think they'll use it so thought about just getting them something individually.

secret santa is brilliant for a small group of people especially with you all benig horsey...

basically it envolvoves all people involed putting there name in a hat and they are drawn out.

which ever name you get you get that person a present but you do not say who it is from only from santa of course!

a budget is set too eg 5 to 10pound meaning everbody has the same spent on them and you only have to buy one single present instead of say 6or7

At my old yard we did a Secret Santa and spent about £5. Most people bought silly things like hair nets, bargain saddle soap or some boot shine. It improved the festive season!

Our YO mainly organized it so, at the end we all chipped in a bought her a huge box of Thornton’s and some wine. I think she appreciated it.

I would ask the guy on your yard, the worst he can do is say that he'd rather not take part. However, if you didn't ask him he might feel sidelined.

forgive me, what is a secret Santa?

It's where you become a "secret Santa" and are randomly given a person to buy a gift for. You don't tell them that your their Santa, it's all a big surprise when gifts are exchanged on or around Christmas.

Yep we do on our yard and YO is included - but to make it difficult we don't know who we buy for and all the presents go in a sack and we pick them out.

There used to be a secret santa among the liverys and the the YM and I would buy small gifts for them all and then arranged a larger present with all the liverys for each other. It was lovely, but we were a very close yard. They are all still my best friends even though the yard closed 10 yrs ago and the rest of them don't ride anymore!
Why don't you get YO a nice bottle of wine or a fancy dessert that she can have at home with Hubby

we do secret santa. we used to do £10 but this year it is increasing to £20. £5 will be fine though. we include everyone on the yard, including the YO, although i often get her a little something extra too. some people are harder to buy for than others, but im sure if you look around you'll find something for everyone!

We're having a secret santa on our yard but the presents will be for the horses! We set a limit of £10 and each horses name is drawn by all the liverys that want to take part. Its much easier to buy for the horses and it's possible to find loads of useful things for that money. In the past we've had various grooming brushes, headcollar, large bag of carrots, leadropes etc. We usually pick a day when everyone is around and have some festive nibbles too.
