The official description is something like - the hardier counterpart of the welsh pony(section b) but with more cob blood - so I would say 12hh to 13.2hh, similar to the section b but cobbier.

The heights are only particularly relevant to people who show welshies. For example, many people breed D's that don't quite make the height but never get re-registered. Or a registered C that grows taller than 13.2.

Does that make sense?

Anyway minimum would be 12hh I think

If its what your after does the height make much difference to you?

I would think he'd need to be very flashy to do well up against full up C's in an open ridden class. But in-hand height is less important. As far as lead rein goes, it would matter that he was a suitable lead rein pony and breed would be less important.

My friend had a cracking dun C mare who was only about 12 hands, totally solid. She did well in hand but was very typey.

I don't reckon his height would be that much of a problem

generaly section C's are not allowed in the small breed classes, and at above local level normaly the M&M LR classes normaly section C's arent allowed as they are classed as a large breed.

If you want something for LR showing then your best going for one of the small breed M&M's ie welsh A and B, dartmoor, exmoor, shetland.

At bigger shows in the ridden classes the C's and D's are in together and believe me a 12hher is not a pleasent place to be sitting with all the 15.2hh cobs thundering past you.

as far as i understand lead rein doesnt matter what breed as long as no taller than 12.2hh, he is well within that-i was curious as he has a very impressive show record, lead rein especially! Mind you I have fallen in love with him already and I guess if I cant enter a few classes then so be it. Looking at schedules he would be ok to go in most lead rein/first ridden classes.
I know how it feels doing large breed m&m ridden, my new forest is 13.2hh and compete against larger ones!!!
