Hi there,

I am off hunting for first time at the weekend. Anyway my horse doesnt normally kick, but when he gets excited in company, he does. I have bought him some nice red ribbon to go in his tail, but whats the best way of securing it? Just tie it in? Sew it in? Or try and plait his tail and then sew it in?

My horse has a unpulled tail that I don't plait - blush!! - but I plait a tiny strand in the middle to tie her red ribbon to.

I put mine around his tail and secure it at the front with plaiting bands..use two of them in case one snaps and make sure it is on well!

I use electrical insulating tape.

Please be very careful if you think he's likely to kick and don't forget, you will be expected to discipline him if he even so much as thinks about lifting a leg. It's better to give him one sound thrashing the first time he does it rather than let it develop into a habit. This is one misbehaviour you simply cannot take any chances with.

I link a few plaiting bands together in a sort of chain, pass the chain under the tail and then thread the ribbon through the loops at either end of the chain and tie as normal.

I got a red ribbon tied into a bow and stuck onto one of this little hair clips that kiddies wear (from Claires accesories!) it can be clipped onto a pulled tail or plaited and never falls off!
