Securing Over reach boots

I put over reach boots on my boy for hunting, the only problem I have is that I nearly always end up loosing them half way round (e.g. when we cross deep plough, etc) as they get pulled off! I use the velcro type so they do come off easily, but obviously I would rather this than him end up tripping over if the pull on ones got stuck!

I was just wondering whether it would be possible to put some tape around them to make them a bit more secure or would this be dangerous and stop them coming off if they needed to?

Any ideas/suggestions welcome! :)

I've found that the double velcro boots like the Kieffer ones take a lot to be dislodged! Are you out from Pickwell next week? And were you out on Tuesday?

What type do you have??

I used these ones and put a cable tie through the top hole so goes through both top holes with the strap and pull tight like my picture below
and cut the end off I have done hmmmmmm at least 10 sponsored rides of 12 11 10 miles never lost one even going through mud and water.
then at the end of your ride just snip them off with sissors being carefull not to cut the boot.

pull the cable tie tie and put nobbly bit facing out to stop rubbing

these are my favourites tho dont use them on sponsored rides, these are gr8 as u see velcro is sandwiched inside so doesnt get wet muddy and undo , no cheap but i find they are the best velcro type ones.

Unless your horse overreaches, don't bother! The only ones that stay on are the pull over ones. I have never known a horse have a fall because of treading on them.

i have definitely heard of horses falling from treading on OR boots. i use the double velcro black neoprene ones for hunting and not lost one yet - dont tape them on as would rather the velcro came apart in an emergency - def wouldn't cable tie them on.

Yes! Am going to be on the white horse in my signature, will be with a friend who is on gate shutting duty. She'll be on a coloured pony. You missed a good one last Tuesday - went on foot and I ended up on the quad with Anan! Was fantastic fun, saw so much more and the banter was brilliant. Also provided the whole field with a tin of quality street. Neil stopped hounds to pinch some en route, and it ended up the whole field were grabbing them out of the tin on the way past me! Phoebe B started it and everyone followed. I think the Cotts will be able to submit a HSC MGA team next year judging by the tactics employed on getting the correct line and good delve in the centre of the tin!
