Walked my boy out with no trouble at all yesterday after giving him 2ml of sedalin, although he looked dopier a few hours later than he did 45 mins after giving it him, so today I reduced it a tiny bit and he was still very dopey much later. Tonight he looked depressed and tired so I braved a walk without any sedation to try and perk him up a bit. Is it normal for them to look depressed and does sedalin work more if given day after day. I didnt even give him the reccomended dose as normal sedation works overly well on him.
It wasnt nice seeing so down tonight as hes usually alert and happy considering hes been cross tied for 6 weeks now so Im toying with the idea of not giving him any tomorrow and seeing how we go. We can only walk up and down the stable block at the moment so if he behaves I will save the sedalin until we actually get off the yard.
Thanks for any replies

Hi tinsel, sorry I must sound confusing, I was concerned that tonight he looked depressed. I gave him the sedalin at 8am this morning but yesterday his first time having sedalin, he was fine and back to normal once it wore off.

I wouldnt perosnally put it down to the sedalin, I found that when I started walking my mare after 13weeks of boxrest she became a bit down in her stable, as she had seen the outside world as it were, and wanted more.

Luckily my girl is VERY good to handle, and bar one over exciteable moment we were very very lucky as we had indoor stables opening onto an indoor school with a 20second walk to an outdoor school.

We did first 5mins twice a day walking inhand with a bridle and lungeline, building up to an hour twice a day then I got back on and did 30min walking hacks building up. First time I sat back on was after about 20weeks, I was delighted as I didnt know if I would ever sit on her again

What had she done? Ive been told the same for walking him out 5 mins building up to eventually riding. Fingers crossed.
My boys fractured his radius so one false move and thats it. Thats whats so scary cos hes being very well behaved and walking calmly but has had 2 times when hes squealed then bronked but thank god hes got away with it. Hence the sedalin.

Idopathic lameness, basically lameness with no cause, she had nerve blocks and scans from hoof to forearm all showed nothing, but she was a b*tch to nerver block, can't blame her personally!!

By the time we built up to about 40mins walking twice a day she was sound, had been in full work before so it was very odd.

Incredably nerve wracking the first time we jumped again, my vet said that might be it, and it would come back and she would never be ridden again!!

They reckon is was probably a muscle tear deep in her chest somewhere deeper than we can probe.

Glad you explained what it was! Never heard of Idopathic Lameness before.
Thankfully shes sound now, makes it all worth it, doesnt it.
I cant believe 6 weeks have gone for us already. We are booked in for more xrays a week on Monday so hopefully he will be freed from the torture of cross tying although he will still have at least another month of 'normal' box rest to go.

I had to try to get her sound, it was horrible she had about 6 weeks of turnout in the whole year, bless her she coped so well with a snakaball and constant radio.

It was three years ago now and shes back hunting and jumping and looking better than ever. Just that makes all the heartache worthwhile.

Good luck!!
