Sedalin for clipping

I have a horse who will just about allow me to clip bits of him using a twitch but is still incredibly nervous of the clippers (and this is following a whole summers worth of desensitization - now I can stand next to him with the clippers running but cannot get them on him without a twitch). This isn't helped by the fact that not only do I hate using a twitch but he hates having it on him and gets stressed when he realises thats what's happening.

I have about 1/4 of a tube of sedalin in my first aid kit that I've used on him before in stressful situations and find that although it doesn't knock him out it does take the edge off and calm him down a lot.

I really need to clip over the weekend (long story but basically it needs to be done!) so would it be worth trying the sedalin rather than twitching as imo its a far more plesent thing to use and perhaps will leave him with a better experience?

Has anyone used sedalin for clipping with any sucess?

I tried sedalin with no success, i think if your horse is not letting you out the clippers on him without a twitch I doubt the sedalin will be enough, it does knock the edge of but if they are scared the fear seems to overide it .

I don't know how much sedalin would be effective for your horse, but I know some people on our yard that use it and it does make a world of difference to their horses, but i think they use more than 1/4 tube..

I think you have to make the experience as pleasant and quick for him as possible, so perhaps use the sedalin first and then when it starts to wear off, get the twitch out?

I always use Sedalin, then just put the twitch on for her head, it works really well. Just use the amount stated for the weight of your horse, it's a complete waste of money to give more, it won't have any more of an effect.

I haven't had this problem with clipping, but I found that Sedalin and a twitch worked well for one of mine who HATES having his mane pulled. I do combine mane pulling with his dentals when he is sedated anyway every 6 months, but typically his mane grows really fast, so needs doing more than twice a year, and this is the only way it's remotely safe to do it.

I posted about this last week, but can't do links else i would show you the outcome.
I used sedalin and a twitch, my boy is the same as yours, it is fear not naughtiness.
He was fine for so long, and then would kick violently with no warning. OH got launched twice before refusing to continue

If you can find my OP you will see what i mean.
