I intended to clip my pony yesterday, ended up giving him nearly a whole tube of sedalin, with virtually no effect whatsoever

managed to clip a tiny area on his neck but he was having none of it. Dont know what to do now really, is it worth trying sedalin again? wish I had spent the summer getting him used to the clippers now!

Vets told me when I purchased some to use on our old pony that it didnt always work. We were lucky that it did but only for about 45 mins and we couldnt get near his head.

If it hasnt worked for you I wouldnt use it again and perhaps its time to get the vet out and an intravenous sedation. Although I have seen ponies kick out even when totally zonked!

I was in exactly the same situation last week, I went to clip a pony, he had been given sedalin and although he looked a little dopey! he was genuinely scared by the clippers and would not tolerate them at all, the vet came the next day and sedated him, he was then clipped easily. I know this is an expensive option but safer all round for pony and all concerned.

Doesn't work on my pony either - especially with clippers!!

If you pony is sensitive to clippers then it is worth taking the time to desensitise him as that is the only long term solution. If you get the pony fully aneathetised, it can just make them needle phobic as well as clipper phobic!

Saw Michael Pearse has a DVD on clipping out - has anyone tried that

I've had REALLY mixed responses with it. I know a big ShirexTB which half the dose knocks her out for dentistry but on my ID it doesn't even touch the sides. Lots of people say it depends what mood/state they are in when you give it. Tried it twice for clipping, first time thought maybe didnt give enough time to get working so second time made sure everything was calm and nice and still didnt work. Does take a good 20 mins - half hour to work tho.

My Cob was in a nice chilled out mood when he had it and it does make the difference if they are already in a happy place. But I still needed to twitch for the head/face area.
