I need to sedate pony for next farrier visit, I've picked up a tube of sedalin from vets but just have a couple of questions.....

Does he need to be given it on an empty stomach?

Once farrier is done can he go straight back out in field?

Thanks xx

It will be fine given without starving him but take away hay while it takes effect and make sure he is in a quiet relaxing place as outside stimulants will stop it working properly, it depends on the horse as to how well it works, one of mine almost goes to sleep after a notch of it, others require more and some it doesn't touch, it should be ok to turn him out afterwards. I have used it to calm horses before turnout as they can still eat while under the influence but make sure he is aware of his surroundings before turning out if you have not used it on him previously just in case he reacts badly to it.
