Has any body used it for loading. After speaking to my vet about my loading problems he suggested it, asd ive got 2 more dressages this summer and will be getting prof help re loading in sept. The thing is the info sheet with it vsays it takes up to 6 hours to wear off so surely I cant ride him let alone do a test!

Have only used it for clipping etc, can affect some horses quite dramatically and last for a few hours. One of mine fell asleep with his head out of a window after sedalin. next thing he'd collapsed in the floor cos he'd either cut off his air supply or his blood supply to his head. He was ok just a bit embarressed!
Re loading problem-we tried a Richard Maxwell pressure halter for one that wouldn't load and kept planting it'self or running backwards.

I would never use sedalin for loading/transport issues. It could well make it difficult for your horse to balance and cope with travel. Similarly, I would not ride a horse that had just been given sedalin. IMO it is not safe. Agree with memo, I'd try a natural horsemanship (groundwork) approach and a calmer such as so kalm paste by Equine America which you can give as 1 shot orally a couple of hrs before travel.

my old pony had sedalin for clipping and would noway use ot for travelling! he used to stuble back to his stable let alone stay stood up in a box or trailor! used to take him around 2 or 3 hourse to recover sometimes longer! try a pressure halter sometimes worked for loading but if not try a natural horsemanshipw way! friends have used these methods and they work better than anything i have come across so far!

Try the halter or practice with the sedalin if you have too. My horse is fine on it and I rode him away using it as he is very sharp and had had a bad experience the first time I tried to ride him away. I know there are people who frown upon it but if its the only way to get the job done sometimes it is necessary. We use ACP at work to ride the difficult ones coming back into work from injury as they are so bored and hyper they are a little over the top and they are all on placid too!
But for travelling I'd always try the pressure halter first.

Vet gave me sedalin for loading, would never use it again, didnt go in the box just looked dopey and wouldnt move. Felt really bad even trying. Got her going in the box with halter training

Hi, am riding my horse daily (!) on sedalin at the moment under my vets advice and my instructors..... He has had over 8 weeks off work following a tendon injury, is very sensitive and forward going and tried riding him half a dozen times beofre doping him and it was dangerous for us both. Vet advised me that it is normal to ride on sedalin in the stages of rehabilitation and take it from me, they are right. I give hima very mild dose which enables us to hack out safely and I feel so much happier as you always worry about the risk of reinjury. Sedalin is administered in a tube and you can give as little or as much as required (your vet will advise) and you can reduce or increase as required. I have found that 2-3 ml on my 660kg horse is enough to take the edge off and he is not heavily sedated, just chilled. My advise is speak to the vet about dosage and be prepared to experiment with the amounts but don't rule it out as an option because I have to say I know that I feel so much more happier, safer and also know that as his confidence improves and he gets out more, reducing the sedalin will not be a problem and soon we'll be out without it. Good luck
