yes get it from your vet though it is expensive - as i run a yard i got a prescription from my vet and now order it off the internet !! its about £8 cheaper !

you dont need to use a lot though (well depending on the horse and the situation)

trouble is with sedalin it will only work if adrenalin is not already raised. So will not effectively sedate a nervous or excited horse. You really need to give it an hour before you need it to be affective, so unlikely to be of any use in a transport emergency.

If your lorry breaks down - do not get the horse off - then you need not worry about sedating your horse. If you have to remove a horse, I would not do it without the police, and if you think your horse will cause problems a vet.

yeh i'd def wait for the police but it might e handy to have something to keep him calm whilst he's waiting otherwise i would have to go in & sit with him. also with a load of strangers around him he might freak out a bit.

I used Sedalin once to clip one of my horses, it didnt work out so well! It was odd, he'd be all dopey for 10 minutes then suddenly "wake up" and freak out for 10 seconds. I wouldnt use it again! And yes, I had given the correct amount advised by my vet.

Why would you need to sedate your horse if you broke down anyway? He shouldn't freak out as long as he's left on the lorry as usual with a haynet to amuse him?

I agree with what MM said, My Farrier wanted my TB sedated so i tried Sedalin first and i dosed him an hour and a half before the Farrier came and he had no distractions whatsoever and the Farrier looked at him before he started and said "oh good!, he is out of it!" " minutes into shoeing and he went nuts!! and really hurt Devin`s arm, He was so sharp you couldn`t tell when he would explode until he did!, So in my experience Sedalin does not work for horses who really take exception to being shod, loaded, clipped etc...
