I'm not sure if posting in the right place so feel free to move. It's about a horsey job so I guessed NL (or TTR) is as good a place as any to ask advice.

Right so I recently advertised a job and wrote quite specificaly 'how to apply'. Someone has applied and apart from the fact their 'covering letter' is terrible (not even a hello or goodbye!) they have not answered the question I put in the 'how to apply' section.

So my question is would you even reply to this person? Bare in mind this is for a position of responsibility, if they can't follow a simple instruction at this point could I trust them in the future? Or is it easy to miss this sort of thing when applying for jobs?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Depends on how many other good applicants I had. I can think of a few people from here who I would certainly trust with my horses but would never expect to write any sort of formal letter.

I get what you're saying Dee, but this is much more than grooms job, and I do need someonewho can be the face of the business if you like, greeting guests, taking bookings, handling cash, ordering etc. Hence why I made it very specific how I wanted them to apply.

Tbh though the 'brusqueness' (is that even a word?!) of the email didn't bother me as much as not answering the question I set. Felt like they'd just skimmed over it and applied in a rush which I will admit I have done myself in the past (and never got a reply;))

If you want them to do office-based tasks then I agree they're probably not suitable:D although there are some less than well educated people who seem to manage to get 4* horses and all their kit round the world successfully:eek:
