Hi All,

I am looking for horses with unusual repetitive behaviours, such behaviours can include but aren't restricted to - tongue lolling, sucking behaviours, chomping with the jaw, ground pawing. If you own, or know of a horse with an unusual repetitive behaviour please contact me via pm or through my website email.

Oofadoofa your horses behaviour is very interesting could I email you a questionairre about it?

I don't know about feed bowl chucking. I know a few horses who enjoy trying to decapitate humans with feed bowl throwing.

One of mine cribs but he also plays with his tongue when he's waiting for feed, ends up with white foam all over the place. He also puts his feed bowl on the door to finish eating & carries them around if he's fed in the field. In fact most of his quirks are mouth based....

I have one that begs for breakfast/dinner/hay/attention ...but does it by gurning - whilst the others are banging or calling for their food he is quietly standing there with his head turning from side to side, tongue out, teeth on show and lips quivering - does it every day without fail. He is a complete freak but very funny to watch! Although when he first did it I thought he was quietly choking

My pony chomps and sticks out his tongue whilst waiting for food, he also does this when you are about to put his tack on and when he's excited out on a hack - must be a nervous thing!
 

I am not looking for stereotypic behaviour specifically. In my work with horses I have come across more and more repetitive behaviours not currently recorded as stereotypic. I am interested as to how common these behaviours are and if there are any reoccuring patterns in the behaviours routine or development.

It is of interest to my main area of study which is stereotypic behaviour in horses.
 
I have one that bangs the door in with his head, like curling his head round the door and kicking at the same time.
One that throws his head up and down repeatedly when tied (he also weaves)
 
I have one who repeatedly runs away in the field if i have a bridle in my hand...

Seriously, I also have one who has to rub his head on me everytime I go up to him in the field. He will continue to rub and follow me rubbing his head on me.He gets quite frantic about it tbh! I sometimes let him but more often than not i escape quickly as it is actually quite painful and he is quite capable of pushing me over, he rubs so hard.

I have no idea why he does it.

He doesnt do it when he is eating!

if you are still look for some then my pony paws the ground and chomps his bit unstopably! PM if you want to ask me more casue i probally wont find this post again!
