OK so have a trailer (Pegasus Huntsman) and a Nissan X-Trail. Have two horses, and my understanding is that I would only be able to put ONE horse up behind.

So what I'm looking to do is to hire a towing vehicle of some sort: have trawled through some "car hire" firms; but don't seem to be able to find anyone specifically where you can hire a towing vehicle with a towbar fitted!

Surely I can't be the only person on the planet who needs this?

Can anyone give me any ideas?? Places to look? Is it really sooohh hard to find anyone?

Would like to go to events and take BOTH horses TOGETHER, with friend who rides me other horse. Right now I'd have to choose somewhere local enough for me to take one horse and leave friend there with that one, then return home and fetch other horse! Can't afford any other towing vehicle with the necessary ooommpphh, way out of my price range.

Get a smaller more economical car, sell trailer and hire a 7.5 ton lorry to go to events. (Assuming you are able to drive a 7.5 ton lorry without doing another test!)

Mmm well, have had that discussion with myself! You know how it is, a nice little trailer came up, and I thought it was too good to miss........... which it was!

You live in the slightly flatter part of a hilly county, I believe. You’d need a beefy vehicle to tow 2 in those parts (I speak from experience on that one!).

Your trailer weighs 905kg, and there are a gazillion variations of X trail which can tow between 1500kg and 2000kg. Which one do you have? You might squeak in legally if yours has one if the higher limits - much do your neds weigh?

I don’t know of any beefy tow vehicles out for hire complete with tow bar - the risk of them being damaged by being expected to tow too much would be off putting as a business proposition.

Some small local firms (i.e. not Europcar, Hertz, etc) will probably have tow cars with 3.5t capacity to hire. Easirent are national and have them but they’re a bunch of shysters (see their Trustpilot reviews) and I wouldn’t touch them with someone else’s barge pole.

Whereabouts in the UK are you?
Is there any scope for buying a sub 1k vehicle with a 3 ton capacity and running it until it fails its MOT?
