feel a bit strange posting this as it seems trivial compared to what others are currently going through with their horses.
Went to vets yesterday to chat to vet and see the xrays of Pidge's hocks. The xrays show a slight fuzziness between the small bones in his hock and the beginnings of a bone spur on the end of the small bone. However I couldn't really tell the difference between his bad hock and his good hock and as the vet said the spavin is only very minimal

So fingers crossed the prognosis is not looking too bad, phew! He has to stay on the bute for probably the next month. He has come off the bute today as the vet is coming out to see him on Wednesday.
Riding wise we have managed leg yielding in walk and trot which in the 2 years I've had him we've never done so much as a step. He is also so much freer over his back, in our dressage tests we were always getting told "tense through the back" and am hoping when we can officially start canter work that he won't go disunited as he did have a tendancy at times to go disunited. So touch wood if he can continue working like he has been and the vet gives him the ok on Wednesday we can start to get back to normal. Hey ho even if I can never jump him again then I suppose I'll just have to 'do a Weezy'

and continue with the dressage

I'm so so pleased for you
Hope he really keeps continuing well and you both go back to enjoying eachother

thanks both

it actually feels like riding a totally different horse. from struggling with dressage for a long time, got to the point where I thought sod it we'll just concentrate on the jumping

I know think that we could do well (for me anyway) at dressage. The difference in how he feels when he moves is fantastic and because his hock and back are so much freer he has started to work properly though it hasn't been easy getting there and I'm sure there are plenty more hurdles to overcome but last night it just sort of clicked
grin.gif
warmed him up using the excercises instructor has got me doing, on a reasonable long rein and he got to the point where he just dropped and lifted and I was just riding round grinning and not wanting to stop
smile.gif
sorry for rambling on just really pleased and relieved

no, quizzed him for 30 minutes last night as went prepared with loads of questions. To be honest I couldn't really see much of a difference between the 2 hocks and if it hadn't been pointed out to me then I would have said there was no difference.
The injection he's already had (Depo Medone) is considered a one off injection, highly unlikely he'll need another one. On the newmarket supplement 1 1/2 scoops a day. Just on one bute a day whilst the spur is forming/settling but he only envisages it for about another month. Nothing needed in his other hock at the present time, was worried if he had been compensating for his hock hurting. Doesn't need remedial shoeing either.
Will obviously have to keep a close eye on him and if he shows signs of lameness then it is obviously causing him pain but so far so good.
Long term he'll need a lot of tlc but he's in the right home for that

That sounds like great news and hopefully he'll be back to normal very soon! It would probably have to be a very bad spavin to stop him from jumping so with luck he'll be at Somerford again this year!

thanks do you really think so? Am trying not to get my hopes up and if vet says no to jumping then so be it
frown.gif
but would be absolutely bouncing round the room if he says we can jump again

Am only going by what happened with Marco (sorry to bring him up all the time!) - we all thought he would never be anything more than a hack as he was very lame for ages, but he is now doing Novice dressage and jumping 2'9" - 3' (as long as there no fillers!
grin.gif
) and is full of beans on farm rides. Best thing is to listen to Pidge and if he feels stiff one day then take it easier. But he is recovering so quickly it looks like a good sign to me.

Great news, and just think how much smarter you can look doing dressaget than show jumping! Cool and elegant may help to resolve other issues eh? lol

Aw that does sound like good news. So pleased for you and Pidge.

BTW Seniqun (sp) is scarilly expensive (and my vet wants her on it for life) so if your vet suggests it have a look for alternatives!

Aw thanks and don't apologise for going on about Butterbean, I go on about Pidge all the time

Feel really pleased with his progress but devestated for FMN and Dermot

I know Gina
grin.gif
he does look very sexy in his white dressage saddlecloth
grin.gif
just need to get myself fitter now as his fitness level is rapidly overtaking mine

Well we had another breakthrough tonight in that for 45mins lesson there was no pulling left arm out of its socket and he was a pleasure to ride. nice and soft, round and lifted at times too
grin.gif
instructor was chuffed to bits too. Lots of hard work for me in the future though as need to maintain this

thanks
grin.gif
will ask him about the Senequin (SP?) when he comes on Wednesday, not concerned about the cost (thanks to Dave
smile.gif
) just want whats best for Pidge. been comparing ingredients of that and newmarket joint supplement and cortaflex on the web already
grin.gif

Well in light of other bad news on the forum today, I am so happy to read your posts! You seem to be feeling much more positive and happier with the situation, & I am sure you & Pidge will be enjoying a variety of activities in no time at all! So pleased for you both!
grin.gif
Also have my fingers crossed for Wednesday for you!

thanks, dare I ask how Hector is? There just seems to be so much bad news re horses on here at the moment
frown.gif

thanks, I want to smile from ear to ear as he was so good schooling tonight, but just can't get FMN and Dermot out of my mind and am sat here crying for them both. I know what she is going through and just wish there was some way to take away her pain.

Oh that sucks big time
frown.gif
sending you lots of hugs and love xxxxx He is such a handsome boy, such a shame
frown.gif

not thought of that Gina, but hopefully he won't be on it for much longer certainly no longer than a month and touch wood not that long
grin.gif
have you tried that no bute? is it any good?
