stupidly I have entered my new horse into the above class and am now worried as this will be our first outing out!! I am going to enter as a riding horse as don't think that he is fine enough for a hack type!! so am going to wear beige breeches, tweed jacket, black boots & hat. so what colour gloves & show cane should I have?? what colour browband would suit my bay beastie?? Does the judge ride my horse??

I would be grateful if anyone else has had any experience although I am expecting to come last as he has not long come out of racing & I have only had him a few months!!

this is my lad:

Yes, the judge will ride so make sure your stirrups will take a man's foot and that the leathers are long enough or indeed short enough for a judge who may be short or tall! Dark coloured gloves and dark show cane - ideally brown but black will not make any difference. The browband should be coloured, no idea what colours would suit yours but I am sure other more artistic people will have suggestions.

Other than that, just enjoy!

My boy will be entering his first ROR class in july. I went to watch the qualifier at Osbaldeston last week. The judge will ride, so ensure that ur horse is used to other riders. The atmoshere was really buzzy at osbaldeston, so try and get ur horse used to lots of noise and electric atmoshere. Get your horse used to standing still in the line up, and when the judge mounts. Practise getting your horse to extend and then come back to you. You dont want your horse to suddenly remember he was a race horse when everybody is asked to gallop on down the long side. Make sure your horse is well turned out, tidy plaits, tail and quarter markings, first impressions count, so if your horse walks in quietly and looks good, the judge will notice. Try to avoid been near any horse that looks as though it will play up, Some of these race horses will get excited with the atmosphere, you dont want to give your horse a reason to join in. You will also be asked to trot your horse up for conformation, so mae sure he will trot out correctly.
If you are wearing tweed, then stic to brown leather gloves and a brown cane. As for browbands, any bold colour looks good on a bay. Red is usually the best option. My boy (in the profile pic) is bay and his browband is red, gold with crystals and pearls.....slightly excessive but it suits him hehe.
Lastly make sure your saddle and irons are big enough to accomadate any size judge, and that your leathers are long enough.
Other then that, just go out and enjoy it, hope for your horse to be well behaved and anything above that is a bonus xxx
ps remember to carry your ROR reg card in your jacket pocket xxxx
Hope this helps xxx

thanks for your help - I am entering as a RH so will I have to perform a show or will it just the judge>> also, how do you get a ROR card??

To register just go to the RoR website and do it online. No show, just the ride judge. Ours is done as a riding horse type, he wears a wine and gold browband. Ours has his first County Show next week and is doing his first qualifer in July too!

Have attached a pic for turnout purposes and just because I love him!!!

Good luck and enjoy it! Ours has been exceptionally level headed (apart from the odd blip!) so hope yours is too :)
