I have lovely 3 year old Welsh Section D - Blaengwen Grand Slam - he was bought as a 6 month old foal as a companion for our homebred chap, sadly we just can't keep him i don't have the time.

My question is do i try and sell him now, try and loan him now or try and keep him until he's 4 next year and hopefully find time to do some more with him and try and sell him then???

He stands at about 14'3 is currently being backed by me and is taking it to it really well. Long reins well and been sat on and walked away no problem on the clip..... very good to handle and easy to do, slightly sensitive and obviously still only a youngman so cuoldn't go to numpties.....

So advice please

Thanks

he is very nice, i like him alot.

not much help though, but i would either sell or keep. i'm not againest loan homes, i have a gelding out on loan BUT i think it is very easy to mess up the start of a young horses education. an can take a very long time to put right

keep, he's a lovely chap, but the market's rubbish at the moment. the more you do with him, the more he'll be worth when he's a bit older and more saleable, obv... you'll be looking at a totally different market then.

Thanks everyone - you are all saying what i thought

i too don't think loaning is a sensible option and think i will just let it known he is for sale and keep price sensible and just try and find time to do things with him when i can and continue his education. It's so hard with full time job event horse in full work and our homebred 3 year old to break in too!
If he is still about i'll advertise him properly next year when hopefully he's been out and done few things.

Thanks eveyone

As others have said, market is dead for this type of horse/pony at the moment. I have found that anything under 1500 is snapped up, and anything over about 8000 is snapped up, but between that there seems to be dead ground.

In my experience of horsemart, horses don't really sell from that site, unless they are under the £3000 mark. What about advertising him in different places?

I would not loan such a young horse, I did that and will never do it again, as I ended up with a horse that will never be ridden again.

If you can, I'd keep him for another year - not many people want to buy a 3yo native - they either want a foal/yearling or a four year old upwards.

I agree, he's drop-dead-gorgeous. I would buy him right now if I was in the market (which regrettably, I'm not)
I would, if I were you, keep him till he is backed and riding away nicely.
Don't loan him, unless it was to someone that you really, really trusted.
I would worry that he would be spoiled.

best of luck when you do come to sell!
