Has anyone ever done this? YO has a 5 year old Sec A gelding and she's basically had enough of him. When he wants to be nice he's lovely but the majority of the time if he can't kick you he'll bite you

With some attention and work he is much better but she doesn't have the time for him. He'll never be a novice pony but he'd make a cracking show pony or showjumping pony - he's got a huge jump on him.

We're trying to think of a) how to advertise him, b) vetting unsuitables and c) price. She doesn't want to advertise him too cheaply or she'll have people thinking they can get a cheap kids pony

Might be an idea for anyone that is genuinely interested to trial him for a few wks at yard so they can be monitored?Just be brutally honest in the ad but sell his strong points also,so people realise he is quirky but talented

Project horses is a good site. You can be honest about the ponies faults and high light his good points as well. There are people out there who take on problem ponies to re school and as for price i know you say you don't want to sell him to cheap but you can't ask to much for him either. I bought a pony before xmas. He is a problem pony who has several issues we are trying to work through. He is a 12.3hh new forest, reg forest bred. I paid £550 inclu all tack and rugs and i wouldn't have paid any more for him.
I would advise being honest with who ever rings up about him. I realy hope you find him a nice home. Sadly i don't have the room for anymore

I think he's got too much attitude to drive - I certainly wouldn't want to be behind him lol

The main worry is he gets sold on and on - she'd rather have him pts than that happen. She advertised him before when he was unbroken and everyone that rang up thought he would be a lead rein pony... Maybe if the leader had armour

I'll tell her about project horses - he's a fully registered Sec A with fab breeding (not that it matters for a gelding lol) so hopefully thats in his favour

If he really does have very good breeding and conformation then advertise him on the welsh pony and cob society website - if he has potential to be an open show pony who could be riddden by an older child or small adult or a be a worker someone might be interesting in bring him on.

Whilst temperment is important you can't change his conformation and if he really does have what it takes to be a top class show pony or worker even if he is quirky then someone will want him. There are things that might be able to be done to retrain him so that he does not feel the need to bite and kick people.

We've got a little cracker which is a dream to handle on the ground and on the lunge, which I would trust with the smallest child - but he won't be ridden, by a child or an adult. Infuriating, coz he's an absolute stunner and can jump 3ft from a standstill (he's 11 hands).
