I've not been on here for a while but as im back im hoping you can help me.

I have decided to sell one of my horses and go from having three back to two. I have sold once in the past but the horse was on loan first and that came about after i relpied to a wanted ad so I didnt advertise.
What tips would you give on writing the advert and where is the best to advertise at the moment?

Thanks in advance

As someone that is horse hunting I would say it's important to make the advert as detailed as you can. I see lots that are quite vague and leave me wondering about key things like how well schooled the horse is, its age or even in some cases its height!

Also, I really like it when people admit to a horse's negatives as it makes me trust what they do say more - e.g. he is good to box and shoe but can be a bit of a fidget when clipped.

I prefer it when people explain why they are selling or it gets me wondering why if it's such a nice horse they don't want it!

A few nice photos too, I like to see one or two of them looking their best (at a show maybe) and then one or two of them in a more everyday mode. If they jump a picture of them jumping with a rider is important to me - not them freeschooling - I want to see what they look like when ridden!

Personally I've been looking on HHO, Preloved and Horsemart.

Thank you for the reply. There seem to be so many sites now i wasnt sure which ones people are using most.
I will put as much information possible and I would want to be honest. Thought about putting a jumping and dressage photo and of her untacked.

Put whereabouts in the country you are.Nothing more annoying than seeing a likely advert and not knowing where the horse is! Also if you put say, not novice ride, put WHY.Some people will think Oh Naughty but it may not be that.

Make sure you get the best photos you can, horse bathed and trimmed etc. Get a good conformation shot, then I like one of them trotting under saddle and then a jumping photo. Make the jumping photo as impressive as you can. It baffles me when an advert states its fantastic jumping ability then shows it stumbling over 60cms. Good photos make a big difference.

Then keep your advert positive and to the point, don't waffle on (e.g. he is good to hack except once on rainy Tuesday he spooked at a bag and danced sideways for a few steps) Yes I have actually seen adverts like this, a horse is a horse you don't have to describe everything its ever done in its day to day life.

You can PM me if you want and I can give you a hand writing it. There's certain dos and don'ts depending on what you're selling. Also which site you put it on depends on what you are selling.

LouS that would be great if you could look through it and give me a hand I would really appreciate it. I am just trying to put something together.
