HI
After much soul searching I have decided I selling my current horse is probably the best thing for her and me. This is probably going to sound very silly but while have obviously bought a horse before and had some shares and and loan. I have never actually sold one; the last one I owned as a teenager when out on permanent loan when I was a teenager; he would have been perfectly sellable and not particularly old, but he'd given me lots of fun and I wanted to ensure to know where he went. With horse prices as they currently are, and I do want to purchase a replacement I can't consider loaning her out.
How does one establish a sensible price for a horse; I paid 7k for her last year when was rising five; she has been professionally schooled twice a week since then and her flat work has improved significantly; she now works in a outline and has stared doing lateral work (with the person schooling her). She jumps well, hacks well in company, is good traffic and is starting to hack alone, currently lives out with other horses but is happy in the stable, is good to catch, shoe etc. She is about 15.3 with a Green Irish Passport; she has a lot of Irish Draught in her so I appreciate she may bulk out a bit . She is a good horse; but too much horse for me and think needs a home where she will have more of a job to do. I think she will make the right person very happy and I don't regret buying her, but I think I might regret keeping her if that makes sense. I am not looking to ask silly money for her; just a sensible price that will give me funds towards the purchase of something else. I do want to sell her honestly to the right home for her.
As a novice seller should I consider sales livery, so she can sold by someone who can show what she can do and hopefully ensure that a person with the right level of experience buys her. I can ask the person who has been schooling her to assist with selling but they obviously have other work as well. I am happy to pay them for their time so this may be an option.
I am aware that lots of people saying that attempting to buy a horse are reporting how difficult and potentially soul destroying it is; I am approach selling with equal trepidation. I am feeling very guilty about the prospect of selling; I had honestly intended her to be a horse who grew old with us but I have reached the conclusion this isn't meant to be.
I appreciate 100s of horses are sold each week and I am probably overthinking this but I would like horse riding to return to be something I love to do; which sadly it isn't a present
