Just a random quickie (famous last words!) as I'm interested in your thoughts on where best to sell, in order to mimimize all New Lounge regulars risks of headache & trauma...induced purely by my ranting on what the latest so called wanna be buyer has traumatised me with this time!See...I only have your best interests at heart;)

Obviously there are now masses & masses of sites we can sell on...each will have their plusses & minuses and there are certain ones that we would in hindsight avoid like the plague.. particularly when it comes to selling a horse or pony of specific breeding/bloodlines/type/price...

Particularly interested in any you have found work better than others for sports horses, youngstock & those bred for eventing or dressage. and which to AVOID!:D

Have any of you used H&H online only ads??

Some sites I know are linked more subtly with others...and you don't know till you've paid for both... and some social networking groups have groups for advertising too....are they just full of serial "liker's" & people who 'will call' just to make them look the part??

and did you come across any you thought were not quite what they were cracked up to be/attract the 'wrong sorts' of buyer (yes I know it totally depends on the ad...but had awful selling saga & really went thru the mill with it, tho all eventually went amazingly well & found him a wonderful home)

Theres a limit to how much I really want to spend on ads due to the market, but as the old addage goes "i can't afford to buy cheap things..." this totally applies to selling ads...

Oh...and some sites are notorius for sharing your ad so it ends up on free/cheap sites that forget to ad you important bit (the 'no canvassers/freaks/lunatic/joy riders & townie day trippers need apply' bit!:D )

i sold my mare via horsemart - had alot of interest in her.

Try to avoid Dragon Driving, it attracts the wrong kind of people

Thank you.....yes I've seen several threads on here hinting at buying the horses advertised on there as they looked a bit welfare issuey....much appreciated:)

Sold through several, it does help if you use ones that have a target market.
Allrounders, schoolmaster types, possibly eventers if not pro rides and all ponies the PC site it is very active but only really used by those that know about it, so not too many wasted calls.
Horsequest is good for some but you need to stand out from the crowd with a really good ad and photos/video
Horsemart for the less expensive types
I have also done well with H&H but have not yet just used just online ads.

Buying I use all the above plus the BE site and if I was looking for a dressage horse the BD site seems to be good.

Unless losing the will to live when trying to find something I do not use the free sites they are generally hard work with poor quality ads,

Horse Hunter, Preloved and Horse Quest, I do all the advertising for a friend with a small dealers yard.

We've sold 6 via Preloved, 4 via Horse Hunter, 4 via word of mouth and 1 via Horse Quest.

Preloved is free if you're a private seller and reasonably cheap for trade, people usually search for adverts close to where they live. You can advertise on Horse Hunter from £2.99.
But I would recommend using Horsequest for competition horses even though it's much more expensive.

Be Positive - thank you for these too...I just had a look at them & like the way they seem far more niche market...(code for right type of buyer & numpty guard)

TabithaKat64 - thank you too.. I wasn't sure preloved would be right for this one, tho my other 3yo I did have on there...had alot of idiots/joyriders & time wasters on there despite him being broken but only in process of being lightly backed-you can imagine the calls i had for 1st ridden/lead rein despite my ad being incredibly clear & very open! I like horse hunter & horse quest tho was toying with horse & hound... my worry is that hes a homebred & is not backed (july 2008 so is rising 4) tho he is bred to event/dressage and I'd be aiming at between 3.5 & 4.5k (going on advice from lady who owns stallion as to prices siblings have reached..) and my second issue being my pic & video..is it acceptable to use a square halt in hand photo which shows him very nicely & clearly but a video taken on a mobile so not great quality of him walk /trot & cantering in a field -unlevel & turned out & he just performed so I grabbed the phone....but you can still make out his lovely movement even if you squint! I am worrying now if these would be enough or not -I knwo you only have to catch their eye & get your foot in the door of their mind...but also am trully rubbish at selling, more so because its personal this time...I bred him to keep & event hopefully, tho had accident (not involving him at all) and circumstances then changed, so its a wrench sale after alot of planning & excitement etc so its a bit reluctant...but necessary & I do want to do it as quickly & easily as poss:confused: thank you for your help tho...:)

I think if you want that sort of money for an unbacked 4 year old you really need to get the photos/ video right as well as getting the wording to attract the right type of buyer, I would if you can do some more video, you can just put it on you tube and let people go there to see it, make sure your name is easy to search for. If you could also loose jump him it could show his potential.

thank you....I told you I am rubbish at selling! I'm very good at getting more..by breeding or obsessively searching...but not the selling bit;-/ you'll see a post on here shortly asking for someone to help take pics & videos! trouble I have is only one pair of hands...and he's very inquisitive so I need someone else to help hold camera/him or to jump up & down clashing buckets together(he's very chilled..so lots of great pics have been missed as he yawns or pulls a dopey face)....right..less waffling from me I have helpers to round up!

this. I have in the past found most interest on horsehunter and preloved but those have not been serious competition horses. I do find that if I have more of a budget to get a horse, my first port of call is horsequest. Good luck!

I think it does depend on the horse you are selling, we sold my daughters pony very quickly through the PC web page but that wouldnt be the ideal place for your youngster. I would suggest H&H, Horse Quest or Horse Deals.

Thank you Liz (and all others!) Horse quest & H&H have been the two I was most thinking of...horse deals & horse hunter would have been my back ups..having some very kind help with my ad so its less epic than my posts (or he'll be 4 before they've read it all!!)and then going to take the plunge...very grateful for all your help -nothing like a recommendation, saves alot of time & heartache with numpties... I'm sure you will all be highly amused at the buyer induced melt downs & dramas that are shortly to follow!:D
