When I sold my Newforest yearling filly the amount of phonecalls I had from clueless people drove me insane. I thought it was due to the very low price.

I am now sadly having to sell my stunning rising 2 year old due to loss of job. I had no interest at first. Then I had someone email me saying she was really interested and could she have some more photos. I went and took more photos of my filly, uploaded them and emailed her them. She said she is stunning and she really likes her so I asked if she wanted to come and see her. No sorry she's not what I'm looking for cos she's too young, I want a broken in pony. Erm it states her age in the ad!!! TIME WASTER!!!!

Then I get a phonecall from a young female. Sounded slightly 'odd' on the phone, that's all I can describe her as! I asked about her experience with horses. Said she once had a 16 hander thoroughbred. Ok. I ask her what she wants my filly for - showing? To eventually ride for herself? Companion at the moment to another horse? She said to ride her eventually. Ok. Then she asks, so is she good to ride? At this point I think no way, I'm not selling my pony to a clueless person! Now she won't stop ringing me and leaving voicemails saying she wants her. I'm going to have to say she's not suitable.

Oh please god would someone normal and knowledgeable ring me next?!

How annoying. I think people go into a trance or some sort of dreamland when they go to buy a horse. My normally sane friend asked me to drive her halfway across the country to see a 17hand 4 year old. I said "are sure you want such a big horse, particularly a green one?" bearing in mind previously looking for 14.3 :o
We got there, rode horse, hacked horse, spend ages yapping about horse. In the end she stood there and said "lovely horse, but I think he's too big". :o:o

You have my sympathy, for having to sell your filly and for dealing with people who are pillocks.

Thanks guys. Stupid government cuts are ruining my life

Pony is having to go, car is having to go. But I will not for the life of me let my gelding go!!

Hi,

Yes I am able to confirm the level of 'weird' and 'questionable' has risen since the decade I last sold a horse.

I had one become mine after livery debt and loss of owner, complicated, but anyway. Rather than a fate in the acutions I turned this animal away at my private property for the winter.

I had no time to ride it, and had even turned my own away.

I advertised said horse as per the description and included "sold from field" stating everything I knew of the horse clearly and honestly. This had been a competition horse.

The was cheap, because I thought a good home was more important than price - oh no, what a disaster, I got every 'questionable' person on earth ring me.

I would have been better putting the horse in the sales. I wasted 3 weeks on phone calls, emails by the 100's, daft questions, tyre kickers, incompetant (yet thought they were very competant) visitors.

Finally someone sane appeared - but it took me awhile to realise!!!!

I got asked:
"Can I ride him in your field please" - erm no, what else does 'sold from field' mean?
"Could you pay for my train ticket to come and see the horse?" (and her husbands) - erm no.

"I can't afford £XXX but offer a home for life if the horse was given to me" - if you can't afford to buy one under £1K than how does this person propose to feed/keep/ care for this horse monthy?

"What is the horse like with (then the massive list of things comes out)" - erm, I have no idea.

"I haven't ridden for 10 years is the horse suitable"

"My husband is a beginner and I'd like something for him" - you'd put a beginner on a large competition horse who needs bringing back into work????

So many weird and wonderful questions!

The lady who took the horse was sane, and restored what little was left of my sanity after this espisode.

You probably get the for the same reasons I ALWAYS, ALWAYS get WITHOUT FAIL a non paying bulls**t time wasting bidder on ebay when I try to sell my car or motorbike, EVERY FLIPPING TIME!!!!!!!!
I will never ever sell another vehicle via ebay again for that very reason, I'll send these people to you instead as you seem to have a queue forming of braindeads!! :)
Only joking!

There is a formula I've come up with;

Weird & Clueless buyers x Way to many horses and ponies = suffering

There are way too many people who want to own a horse or pony who don't have or have access to those with the skills and knowledge to look after them, however, there are too many unscrupulous people who WILL sell them an animal regardless, which means there are too many animals about and loads that are ill treated whether intentionally or just through ignorance.

There should be a licence to own and breed horses!

Stick-to-your-guns and await a suitable buyer!

Oh believe me that it isn't just you. I have one for sale and I have just got offered to swap him with some pure bred Arab sperm!
