just sold my mare and yes they do. Had another one ask me to hold her for 4/5 months until she had gathered the money. luckily she's gone to a (hopefully) amazing home.

Oh i have had acorker.
Obviously a kid interested in the connemara pony I was selling at the time.
Asked loads of questions by text which I answered including the typical "How high does it jump?" Etc. The pony was very tolernat and actually probablynwould of suited a novice teenager. Then after 2 days states she has no money but could she loan... I said no, it's for sale. Then endless messages, about 5 in row begging. I stayed polite and said basically that No, that wouldn't work for me, it's my living but why don't you speak to your parents...
Spoke to parents 'apprantly' who agreed to give me £10 a week for the pony if I kept it jere and she would look after it at weekends. Hence rather blunt reply "NO.... I am not a charity... stop messaging me!"

Shes been for sale 2 months, I've had a young girl ask 100's of questions then say.... I can't wait to be able to get my own pony one day. People wanting me to keep her for 6 months paying me £30 per month and dropping her price by £100 (shes only on for £500) Then the pay monthly people!

Can't believe the cheek! but i suppose if you don't ask, you don't get!

You can start to understand why people sound abrupt on adverts and state no text or emails. I've found saying no other communication usually puts off a lot of time wasters because actually they dont have the balls to phone!
Luckily (he says with confidence) I have two horses that would likely not even need advertising and go word of mouth or through Riding Club.

Your pony is very cheap, I think that's why you are getting unsuitable people asking about her. Are you sure she's not worth more than that? Is there something about her that makes her unrideble/difficult etc. TBH I would advertise her at £1000 and be prepared to negotiate by putting something like "good home more important than price" and say no texts please. Good luck

Hurts my heart all the teenagers who think it's acceptable to be ********s and mess others about. This is why so many adverts say "No under 18s".

Never had to sell a horse and with all the horror stories don't think I ever will!! OP I'm really sorry you're getting so many dishonest idiots. I hope you find your pony a lovely *genuine* home x

Shes got a scar so isn't suitable to be shown, and I've only hacked her for the last 2 yrs so is out of schooling etc!

I just want her to find a new best friend :)

Just don’t engage with them.
I’ll answer a couple of sensible questions by text/email but after that will say please call to discuss.

Honestly the serious buyers I’ve had will generally only make an initial contact by text/email - after that they pick up the phone, ask what they need, and book to view.

Thankfully I’ve never had anyone ask to pay in installments!

A simple scar will not make much difference to her value if she is a sensible safe hack, the same with schooling if the basics are there which they should be if she is a good hack then it will come back if someone wants to school but don't discount all the people that hack as the main purpose for having a pony.
I would expect a "happy hacker" to make at least £1500 if it is nice to deal with, good in traffic and uncomplicated, assuming she is at least 13.2 and not too ancient, I sold a 14.2 teenage pony for £1800 to be a safe hack for mum to escort a child on lead rein not long ago.

Blimey if she's a safe hack then that's actually quite valuable!! Don't undersell her! I'm currently looking to buy (but limited to a gelding) but absolute top of my 'wish list' is 'good to hack'.

Agree RE upping the price. A genuinely safe, happy hacker certainly has its own value. I paid £1,500 for a relatively green for her age (schooling wise) nutty Arab who freaks out at her shadow in the school.....
...worth every penny though as I love her to bits!

Worth noting that my initial conversations with the owner was via text and email as I work in an office and hard to call and sensible hours. Upping the price will put timewasters off to an extent so definitely try that.

A scar is just cosmetic...A good sensible head and safe is more important...Putting the price up a bit might deter some of the time wasters. I don't have my own pony..... yet, but would go for the above first and foremost.

She sounds a lot like yours- typical Arab too! Although she’s is safe! Never bucked or reared! How was yours advertised if you don’t mind me asking? She needs a v special Home!

Buddylove - I wish I had the funds! Would be so much easier

Well it sounds like I’m indervaluing my Lille lady! Will have to have a long hard think!!
Anyone here thinking of expanding your herd? She’s such a sweet mare

Is she purebred Ballyj? Have you advertised her on the arab pages on FB or Arabian lines? Lots of arab people would love a nice safe hack, definitely agree on upping the price.

I got the people who were really interested. Sounded great, spent lots of time back and forward describing him. Then “oh can you keep him for a while, I just need to sell the pony first”. Another coming from the western isles. Again spent ages chatting and telling all about him. Got the please don’t sell him to anyone else. We discussed transport back over and arranged for her to come see him. All good to go the night before and I still havnt heard back from her!

Mine I found on Horsemart. There wasn’t much in the advert to be honest from what I can recall (it was a while ago) I was just so struck with her photo that I had to go and see her. She’d been out on trial for a month with a teenager I believe who didn’t get on with her and at the time, I couldn’t understand why. But now I understand...she is so difficult and really is a one person mare. She needs time, and an understanding it’s a partnership rather than you always in charge.

I think if I ever had to sell her now (I’d rather sell organs/car/husband first) I would say just that. That she needs a home that will love her and have the time to develop that bond. A home where they would take her and bomb her around the woods or over jumps would not suit. I’ve put in thousands of hours, had countless bumps, and we are just getting there with the schooling...I think a potential buyer would need to know this too.

It’s so hard I think as unfortunately there will be timewasters out there. But keep going and good luck

Such a shame she's not 2 hands bigger!
However, I suspect her height and price is at you're attracting the younger folk and daydreamers. Good luck for finding somewhere suitable for her.

ballyj, that’s quite a popular x for PC and younger teens that want a pretty pony, so I understand why you’re getting that audience. Agree re upping value, or sending her for a couple of weeks schooling to Help her sell to a wider audience.
