selling older horses in this market....

One of my liveries is wanting to sell her 15 yr old dressage horse. As far as I am aware he has only done unaffiliated, albeit to elementary, but has not competed recently. She asked me for a idea on price, but not being a dressage type have no idea. She wants to put him up for £3500 but I would have thought £2000 - £2500 in the current market?
What do you guys think pricewise (not adding any more details as don't want to be seen as advertising!)

I suppose much depends on what else he does as well as dressage - if he is a delight to hack out alone and in company and is excellent in traffic, and is perhaps happy to pop a few poles, then he is going to be attractive to quite a wide market who won't mind his age. However, if he is a bit quirky then he is not going to be worth as much.
 
Thanks - unfortunately he doesn't jump and spends most of his time in the school. He is occasionally hacked down the lane and back, so would assume is good in traffice etc.
The owner is very sad to sell him but just hasn't got the time for him and needs him sold before the autumn, and as is more concerned about getting him a good home want to make sure she prices him realistically.

To be honest, unless he is something really special, she will be lucky to £1,000 for him. You can pick up well schooled, much younger horses with good competition records for 3 grand. I think she needs to be a bit more realistic about selling him.

I'm inclined to agree. If she is more concerned about the home, then I would suggest loaning.
 
I would think that most dressage riders would expect a horse of that age to have a significant number of points. I would put the horse on at £2,750 but be willing to drop the price.
