Does anyone have any pointers on ad wording etc when it comes to selling potential dressage stars??

I'm not from a dressage background (eventing yes, dressage only if its part of a ODE!) and would appreciate someone in the know's advice.

Thanks :)

Sounds silly, but what is it that makes you think he has potential. So many horses are advertised as potential 'this that and the other' when they can be kindly said not to really! (I'm not suggesting he hasn't, rather that it is an over used word in ads).
If he has potential, but no results then good pics and actual examples of how he is working/breeding etc (basically whatever it is that gives him his star appeal!). Perhaps as well as speaking to the owner, if he is with a rider/trainer you could also give contact details for them?

Thanks. I know what you mean by people over using 'has potential' in ads.

I am saying potential because 70% in first ever outing and went straight in at Nov, and also 2 International trainers are saying Adv/Med if not further for him.

So a few select results - with proof??, some flashy pics, what sort of movements would people be wanting to see if we do video??

Thanks for the advice so far!

all 3 paces, a few lengthaned strides, possibley leg yeild.. is it possible you can ride a test and video it? it may be to long but if its a serious horse, ive always found people want decent vids. Especially if they are travelling say 4 hours to view..

Instead of potential try using abilty. much better word and to a point your horse sounds like he has all ready proven his abilty to do well and have a trainable attitude. ..see already it sounds better than has the potential.. its a meeningless word imo.

Thanks for the suggestion....I do like the sound of abilty, as he is a very able boy. So video check list at the moment is med walk, free walk, collected, medium and working trot, workind and med canter and leg yeild.

I have his first Nov test on vid so could re-do it now to show improvement??

Normally I would just do a few flat pics and some of big scary fences but I dont think that would quite work for this one! :-)

Deffinatly do the improved vid but let people kniow you have one of him do a full test, some may also like to see the original as it shows him in a competiton setting.

id proberley do a short a video showing the basics, then a full test that way you have covered both angles and people have the choice.

Definitely agree with the video. It will eliminate people for whom he isn't right so will save you time.

Basic info such as height, breeding, result at novice, describe paces eg 3 straight true elastic etc depending on what they are like and describe trainability and say you believe he has potential to do at least advanced med. Put in some photos - side on shot /ridden shot.

Thank you all for your advice. Fingers crossed I should have a pretty good advert now. Ad should be appearing fairly soon in a H&H near you!

I'll also have to put that he is a proper snuggle monster and will require cuddles and fuss, as he is very used to this now.

It is also worth looking at the classifieds on the BD website to see how other people have phrased things. Then advertise on Horse and Hound and the BD website to ensure you reach the right possible buyers.
