Has anybody done this, and is it worth it? Have had a little clear out and have a few that there is absolutely nothing wrong with them, just don't use them anymore.

I sold all of Amy's on Ebay. Made enough money to fully kit out Thumper.

Make sure they are clean - and you'll get a good price for them.

I have bought a few things on ebay before. I have also sold a few things but not rugs before. I am not sure if there is a huge demand for second hand rugs because postage charges are often very high. This probably doesn’t help. Sorry.

6'9s. I have chunky beasties!

Don't know about selling but I bought two rugs from Ebay last year. They came to £15 each plus postage, were clean and completely perfect. I'm always watching the pennies so I was chuffed to bits with my bargains.

I've only sold two or three rugs on eBay, but they have gone well, for a good price each time (see my traumatised post in SB on ebay if you need further proof!).
I think the key is in having a clear photo, and accurated description, and advertising them during the right season.
And remember that postal charges are usually somewhere from £7.50 to £10 per rug, so you have to add that on.

Unless, of course, you get stung for postage! I recently sold an ancient rambo, was very pleased with what I got for it. I had advertised £8 postage but the guy who bought it was in Ireland. I couldn't figure out from the PO website how much that would cost, but figured it's not that far, so charged him a tenner. Big mistake, the PO charged me £21 to send it...

I emailed the guy and told him what had happened, I didn't ask him to pay the difference but thought he might have offered something else. No chance, he took his bargain

So make sure you state that you will only post to UK, or check up on how much the overseas postage will really cost!

That said, I've sold quite a few rambos and they have always sold brilliantly. Bought a few too and been pleased as well.

I think the good quality second hand rugs go quite well, and in some cases sell for more than the new ones!

Depends a lot on size as well - seems to be lots of people looking for 6'3" and 6'9" (guess everyone has either a 15.2hh or a 16.2hh).

I am in the same position as you - I am getting rid of my boys rather extensive wardrobe as he will be retired in a field, unclipped, so no need for the 50 odd stable rugs and heavyweight turnouts he has ... he is still holding onto about a dozen rugs though as he wants to retire in style!

So I will be taking pics on the weekend and putting them on ebay (dont worry T - they are all 6'0" and 6'3" so no direct competition!) It will be the first time I sell anything on ebay - am planning to put the used ones on auction and the brand new ones as auction with a reserve. Will use the manufacturer's description (think that will take the longest to do) and then try to make sure that take pics of any repairs/rust on buckles etc.
