Hi,
Im selling my saddle on e-bay and someone has asked for the serial number.
why would they want to know this? and should i give it?
probably perfectly normal! just ive never heard this asked when saddle buying and you hear about so many scams these days

depends on saddle, they may be trying to work out the age - some saddles like treeless ones (HM saddles) have numbers you can check what model etc...., or checking its genuine?

the serial number will tell you the age/ model and width etc as some manufacturers (like John Whitaker) have a huge range of widths.

I got asked when I sold my albion on ebay- and told them - I think it is so they can check its authenticity with albion etc. To be honest I would ask too - the number of times that I have bought decent branded items on ebay only for them not to be what they were described as.

I would ask for the serial number for the above reasons, and actually re our other conversation, if you are thinking of buying one of those 2nd hand then get the serial number and you can find out its age and provenance for yourself
