Selling................

I dont particlarly like selling any of the horses, but realise that cannot keep them all...........that is why the homes are such a priority for us. Also its lovely to get the updates with the new owners and see how they have grown up.

It is a shame when you see them being sold on occasion, but unfortunately peoples circumstances can change, and you can only hope that the next person will take care of them.

Its always a worry but one of those things you have to try hard to put to the back of your mind............otherwise it would be best just to breed very small numbers to keep yourself.

I am not looking forwards to it. I bought my arab last December knowing she was in foal to a little 13h scrub stallion, I wanted the mare, wasn't interested in what she threw. Look what she had ? The prettiest little palomino filly which is very araby and a total sweetheart.

I can't keep her though, I reckon she will make 13.2h at most, she isn't registerable (Palomino Society only register over 14.2's, and part bred arabs must have the non arab parent registered with some society) and she will be wasted with me. So, at weaning, or next spring at the latest, she will have to go

she'll make a lovely riding pony for someone, hopefully I already have a purchaser for her, but until the money is on the table.........................I am so fussy though, practically interview prospective buyers....

Have only sold one as a foal but were lucky enough to sell her to the owner of the stallion who stands at the stud where we keep our horses so we see her every day. It's even harder when you sell older horses. We sold 2 homebreds last year, one was 9yo and the other 4yo.

It is really tough. I have turned buyers down as i just haven't felt right about them. I always cry when they leave for their new homes, but thankfully stay into touch with just about everyone we have sold to, and made some great friends as a result

Oh dear - this is why my hubby won't let me buy a mare to breed to my boy: he knows I would never be able to bring myself to sell the foals, and we'd just end up with lots of horses all eating their heads off and costing a fortune!

He's happy for me to have another colt/stallion, though! Poor deluded fool has got it into his head that I have some kind of Midas Touch with picking good stallys, so he thinks it would be 'an investment' lol!

But I've had to promise to get the next book written before I go on another colt-shopping trip...

I hate selling anything, I once had to sell a coloured that had cost me a fortune and caused loads of grief and I sobbed when he left, am a wreck when anything I really like has to go and I can't bring myself to sell two horses that I really should........

but I know I have to for the sake of the others and what I want to do with them as I dont have endless time or cash and have to concentrate on the best ones for my purpose.
