Hi, just wondered if I could have some opinions to help me make a decision.

Freddie (see sig) is 4. He'll be 5 next April. He's had a varied, inconsistant start to life but most recently (just before me) was with a pro. producer and had a good start to ridden life. He's incredibly green, straight lines are virtually non existant, he takes a long time to warm up and begin to soften, etc. etc... Eventually, hopefully next year and the year after, I'd like to show him locally and then take him further.

I'm thinking of sending him away for schooling for a few weeks in autumn/winter. I know exactly where I'd send him but I don't know whether to go for it or not...
It'd be fairly expensive and I'd want to know he was going to benefit from the experience. So do you think it's a worthwhile thing to do to benefit his schooling??

What do you think the pros and cons of sending a horse for professional schooling are?

Thank you.

I would think it better to get an instructor working you together personally as opposed to sending him away in this instance

I woudl give him the Autumn and Winter to mature, physically and mentally, some hacking, not serious schooling.
Then in the Spring arrange a couple of seeions each week and learn together with the person you have in mind, perhaps have them ride him a few times, and then teach you on him.
