Just be very careful and put everything in writing - also chip and freezemark your pony first. I loaned mine twice, first time was very good, second not so. They came across as very knowledgeable but let one pony get severe laminitis, then dealt with it by locking her in a pigsty fetlock deep in sh*t and no hay! They didn't bother to tell me, or get the vet - I luckily turned up unannounced and found her. Needless to say we took her straight back and haven't loaned out since.
Don't let that put you off though, just make sure everything is watertight first. I've loaned a horse myself and that went very well. God luck!
Thanks, for a start, I will still be seeing my pony and checking him everyday as he will be staying at the yard where he currently is, and I will still be resonsible for the majority of his care so I will be certain he is being looked after properly.
I loaned out my old horse, and all was good until he severed a tendon, not really the loners fault, they looked after him well and he got through it! Then I get a voice mail to say he had been PTS.......... no asking me nothing I was so effing angry .......
I know share a horse 3 days a week, the owners are brill and let me do whatever i want with him, and trust me completely.... good luck finding someone
I know that I am an excellent horse owner. I have had horses on loan before and they have always gone back in better condition then when they arrived, However, I would NOT loan out any of my horses ever again. I have done it twice and both times the horses have suffered even though I did all the checks, agreements etc.
Some people can pull the wool over your eyes no matter what. Just be very careful. This is just a tale of my own personal experience but you must make up your own mind. Good luck
