Hi, We have two rescued ex racing TBs aged 14 and 19 years who are out on grass and are regularly wormed. A few weeks ago the 19 year old (Moscow) had a mild attack of colic. The vet examined him and pulled out a lump of undigested grass from his backside. He improved somewhat but over the following couple of weeks I noticed he was losing weight and scouring. Also he wouldn't let me anywhere near his flank (I think that's what it's called). As a precaution we had his teeth looked at which weren't too bad but things did not improve. We went to another vet who diagnosed that Moscow was having a problem absorbing the nutrients and recommended supplementing his diet with hay together with probiotics in his hard feed. So at the moment he is on half a pint jug of Cool & Cooked, pony nuts and a full pint jug of chaff mixed in with beet, oil and live yoghurt. Although Moscow looks as if he has put on a little weight he is still scouring and still won't let me near his flank. The vet has now recommended taking him completely off grass as it seems he can no longer digest it. We are going to try this (it will be difficult though as they have to stay out for the time being and won't like being split up) but I am wondering if anyone has any other ideas - am I feeding him enough hard feed? - is there any other product I can add/try? I am a complete novice at this so any help would be gratefully received. Thank you.
